  1. Rozetta Johnson – I've Come Too Far With You / Who You Gonna Love - Kent Deep Soul 04 Up to number four now in Kent's Deep Soul Series and the quality matches the pace with two top sides from Rozetta Johnson. The release notes from that time follow below... Rozetta Johnson’s name is synonymous with the highest quality southern soul, often in conjunction with Sam Dees, who wrote these two sides. ‘I’ve Come Too Far With You’ was a previously unreleased Clintone master until Kent issued it on CD in 1998. The flip ‘Who Are You Gonna Love (Your Woman Or Your Wife)’ is constantly in demand and was one of Dave Godin’s all-time favourite recordings. View full store item

  3. Atlanta Soul Artistry 1965-1975 Kent Vinyl LP Though built with highly questionable finances, gangster Michael Thevis’ GRC, Aware and Hotlanta labels produced some scintillating mid-70s soul music. Thevis knew his limitations and allowed his producers, arrangers and songwriters free reign as long as they worked hard and came up with good recordings. It was the period in music when Detroit and the south got together, as with Stax and Westbound’s Memphis/Detroit co-productions, and Thevis tried to make that blueprint work for his Atlanta set-up. He brought producer Marlin McNichols and engineer Milan Bogdan down from the Motor City and Floyd Smith from Chicago. Smith came with the highly talented singers Loleatta Holloway and John Edwards, while McNichols brought the Counts, Ripple and Deep Velvet to cut in the spanking brand-new Sound Pit Studios. Songwriter supreme Sam Dees was co-opted from Thevis’ Moonsong operation, which he ran out of nearby Birmingham, Alabama, and the resulting sessions produced some exquisite soul songs – several of which charted, making the company hot between 1973 and 1975. Tracks SIDE ONE 1. BIG BOAT RIDE - Dorothy Norwood 2. I’M TIRED OF DREAMING - Joe Hinton 3. YOU WERE RIGHT ON TIME - Ripple 4. YOU GET TO ME - Lee Brackett 5. IT’S GOT TO BE THE REAL THING - John Edwards 6. DON’T LET ME KNOW - Charlie Thomas 7. LOVE WOKE ME UP - Loleatta Holloway SIDE TWO 1. IS THAT ANY WAY TO TREAT A LADY - Jimmy Lewis 2. COMPLAIN TO THE CLOUDS (BUT YOU CAN’T CHANGE THE WEATHER) - Deep Velvet 3. FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE - King Hannibal 4. YOU AIN’T FOR REAL - Arthur Alexander 5. I’M LEAVING - Joe Graham 6. I’M A DREAMER - Bobby Burn 7. SINCE WE SAID GOODBYE - The Counts View full store item

  5. The Weavers Of Dreams - Weavers Of Dreams - Super Disco Edits Members of The Weavers of Dreams were some of the best Madison had to offer. Algie Hough-Guitar, Clyde Stubblefield-Drums, David Davenport-Bass, Phillip Kelman-Flute, Keys, Production, Jackie Allen-Vocals, Willie May-Vocals. The songwriting and music the collective musicians were making was of the highest order. With this in mind Al made several flights to New York around 1980 searching for a recording contract. Eventually getting a small deal with Carousel Concepts owner David Ward. To this day Al doesn’t really know what happened with the deal. Or how many were actually pressed. In this all too familiar story of long lost hopes and dreams Super Disco Edits are very proud to bring you The Weaver of Dreams. View full store item

  11. 15. Newban - If I Could (Make You Mine) / Rhythm & Rhyme - Soul 4 Real Records Back in what now feels like a golden period in music and creativity, in the 1970s, many bands were formed by students. It almost seems like so many people could either sing, play, dance or write songs! This was also the case of several Woodland High School students in New York, who created Newban with fellow classmates. The group started gigging around the tri-state area of New York, Connecticut and New Jersey, and were soon brought to the attention of legendary Bell Recording Studios audio engineer Malcolm Addey, who recorded with the band over a two-month period in 1974. Three years later the tracks made up two superb and sought-after albums released by tax scam label Guinness. In 1977, Newban headed out to play the Los Angeles nightclub scene, closed a deal with A&M, and changed the band name to Atlantic Starr at the request of Herb Alpert. For the first time on a 7” format, Soul4Real brings you two of the best songs from Newban. Enjoy the music... Mark GV Taylor Each record will arrive in a glossy picture sleeve, complete with a poly cover and inner white sleeve. LIMITED EDITION View full store item

  19. Savoir-Flair - Keep Holding On / You're The Best - Miles Away Records Miles Away Records are proud to present our latest release Keep Holding On / You're The Best by Savoir-Flair. Dallas, Texas in 1982, during the hot summer months Roger Boykin, John Miller and Cassandra Wright were working as session musicians at Precision Audio studios. They were put together to create soundtracks, jingles and idents for US TV commercials and, in what spare studio time the three of them had, would experiment with the studio equipment at their disposal - writing and developing what would become the Savoir-Flair sound. In these secret, after-hours sessions the three would create a staggeringly good private press 80s modern soul album. A flawless collection of tracks with every one of them hitting hard. It would be released on Roger's own label SoulTex Records with the group touring locally. Alas though, this was to be their only album as Savoir-Flair disbanded a year later. The impact this album had however can still be felt today with the 45 and LP becoming highly sought after amongst modern soul collectors around the world. Can listen above View full store item

  21. Kenyetta - If We Only Had - Epsilon Records Paris Ford wrote: "I think I have a copy of this record, it has really bad pop and scratches" Yes I was a member of the group! I played bass with them in the 70s I could not believe it ! I finally managed to find the guys behind the amazing KENYATTA group! Paris and I spend hours talking about music and I quickly realised that I was talking to a legend of funk, R&B bass player. I ended up starting my own label because of him and released Boogie On Down, EPS001 in November of last year. While we were chatting, Paris informed me that a year or two after the recording of Kick It Off, they returned to the CBS studio in Manhattan at the end of 1975 to record a full session, including 10 songs from a unfinished project that never actually came out. I asked him if I could listen to those tracks. I was blown away when I opened the attachments and started listening to these tunes. I've never heard anything like it and I knew these recordings were really special. If like me, you love to listen to obscure, unknown and sophisticated killer tunes! I am sure you will love these songs. After almost 3 years, I was finally able to get a full license of 4 unreleased songs from this session. The master tape has been badly damaged, although the quality of the sound files is far from perfect, I do hope you will still enjoy them. We managed to remaster them and this is the first time they are released on vinyl by Epsilon Record.Co in a limited edition. View full store item
