Hey mate, I have the 45 of 'Fly Away Love Bird, and the other version as 45 and Lp by Tyrone Thomas, what else is on this LP thats worthy?

    Mal

The whole lp ! It’s a masterpiece, “3 strikes on me “ is incredible deep soul , “this is my prayer” superb mid tempo crossover and a superior take than the 45 too ( 45 lacks the backing singers if I recall right )

That’s what I was gettin at.. even up to the millennium it was only a £150 record where I was

Yes ,£660 26years ago was a colossal amount, sold mine for about 300 if memory serves me right in 2006  !and I thought I did great! Mind you somebody paid 640 for the ultimates on br roma a few year before that on jm auction 😳

    I disagree.

Once Wigan finished in 1981 a mass of people left the Northern scene. It was left to the dedicated and hardcore Northern soul people to carry on with allnighters in a semi secret underground subculture for nearly 20 years, all through the 80's and 90's. Then came the internet and all those people that had left, realised it was all still going on and they all came back in droves. Also a lot of newcomers became aware of the scene through the internet and  wanted to come and be dj's and put on soul nights in the spare room of there local pub to do it. The internet caused it to be all commercialised again!

The demise of the ‘pub scene ‘ as had its input too , boozers and losers have used the northern scene for a long time now .

I used to think that too and they will of course eat them. The lovely lady at Hedgehog Cabin has opened my eyes to the world of hogs. She has loads of info on her website with regards feeding them etc. Not sure if links are permitted but a quick Google will bring her up.

It's always a tricky balance regarding feeding due to other species pulling up at the buffet, and of course effort, but so worthwhile as they are in real danger. You're very lucky to have them x

On my allotment we have hedgehogs about, so I’ve been told to avoid harming them instead of using slug pellets to use porridge flakes as the slugs eat porridge flakes and kills them but then is harmless to hedgehogs if they’re hungry enough for slugs being on their menu , just putting it out there as any garden lovers on here could try it too .

    Bloody Groundhog day! again!

we all like a good moan, thats what this thread is right? but can we do other dealers auctions, and then we can moan at a different monkey 🙂 lol

To be fair I’ve absolutely nothing against jm in fact I sold a collection to him . My post was really just about the ultimates 45 and the buyers

  7. The one I’m going to find interesting is the ultimates , at least 15 years ago jm sold a copy on auction for £640 ish , I was staggered as I’d paid about 20 some years before but can’t remember exact year and thought at the time of auction it’d make maybe 60! My thought is , who paid all that all them years ago and what must they be thinking about the colossal amount they paid  back then , where are these people from ? They must be very private as if it was a mate of mine I’d know or do they keep it to themselves what they’ve bought and more so the amount they’ve blown and do they have a secret room they keep them in so nobody knows and play them to themselves.

Maybe a subject for discussion on a new thread but the off road bikes are a real problem on the moor opposite my house, there are signs everywhere saying they are not permitted which always has me wondering where do people draw the line as to where the law doesn't apply to them. Paths are becoming unwalkable in some places. Another factor is unless you know the footpaths it is becoming harder for walkers from out of the area I would imagine to distinguish what is a legitimate path and what is a cycle track  These photos don't really convey the amount of damage actually being done. I have spoken to two local landowners who have both been threatened with violence confronting bikers.

I used to have less of a problem with mountain bikers but on some paths and one in particular that I have walked for the last twenty years which passes through National Trust land because of the nature of the path and restricted area for the path to deviate I can easily see within the next couple of years it being too dangerous to walk.

Don't get me wrong I respect peoples right to roam but once water gathers in the tracks left by cyclists or bikers it becomes a slippery slope (no pun intended) to a mud bath and once that happens from what I have witnessed first hand said people move to the left or right and what was once a small footpath becomes a bog to be traversed.

Footpaths were once just that and no one I guess could have predicted the rise in Mountain biking as a leisure pursuit, I don't see an easy solution to an ever growing problem and can understand to some extent bikers not seeing anything wrong in how they enjoy the countryside but I honestly believe some areas will eventually become impassable even for them.

      apologies for the rant,

It’s become worse with the advent of E bikes , I was on my local moor and two Billy Bunters on e bikes were coming up the hill gassing away , not even pedalling ffs It was a bit of a problem but got bigger with these sort of ‘cyclist ‘ they’ll even get home and put it on Strava lol ,  so they’ve shut it to cyclist , which I think they’ve done right and I go cyclocross and road biking .

With something like thirty plus years of incredible soul music only available on CD it does seem rather sad that this track could somehow get elevated to the status that some choose to give it,  as tracks go that first came on a CD I personaly would not give it a top two thousand place , as a soul record fast or slow not even in the top five thousand. It would be really interesting to know roughly how many soul souce members purchased CD's and in what format ie compilations of northern or modern 10% maybe?, new material from it's release date 2% maybe ?. The point i'm getting at is this really does seem to be a lot to do about a nothing record in the first place. If folks want to argue the toss about the merits of how you play this thing to an audience then so be it, however I personaly believe their appreciation of quality soul would be better served by taking a listen to all the wonderfull CD cuts they choosed to avoid or ignore, but maybe it has a lot to do with not being able to impress others with their latest purchase🥱.I still hate them🙂.

Amen to every word you say regarding cds , I also don’t like them but as you say the tracks that have been overlooked is a pretty sad affair when you consider the Calibre of artist that were still recording quality songs and still had great vocal prowess that were ignored is a loss to the scene , I started a thread ‘cd only tracks that you love ‘ to see if others felt the same , I was talking original cd recordings not ‘unissued releases ‘ .

    R.I.P Rance

A vocal range from falsetto to bass and anything in between, an incredible voice.

I played this to a friend only a few days ago as an album track recommendation.

The Rance Allen Group - Where Did I go wrong - Stax 1980

Few more Otter pictures from my recent trip to Pembrokeshire

The Bottom picture shows how close the Otter actually was to me at one point and with only having the 500mm f4 lens I  struggled just get it in the frame and I couldn't step backwards anymore
