There is a local ringing group operates at the reserve.
Back in September the ringing group went over to Portugal for a weeks bird ringing, the one chap caught a Blackcap that he had ringed earlier that summer in the Midlands
Martyn, how long have they been ringing birds now,and don't you think we should know their habits and it courses stress for the birds.

That reminds me of someone telling the RSPCA that when he goes into the park at night he feeds night squirrels so they set up night cameras,he was letting rats run all over him and feeding them.....ErrrrrrrrrrrrrrrReminds me of a story from my past, heading through Hyde Park on my way to Victoria station to catch a train to Gatwick for my return flight to Toronto after a 100 club allnighter I thought the noise emanating from a rubbish bin would be a relatively harmless grey squirrel, so I thought I'd give it a scare and kicked the bin, only to see three enormous rats leap out, gave me the scare of my life.

Yes your right,a pair will soon strip a hedgerow of all its nests.I have a bungalow right opposite my house.
Yesterday, I was watching a Magpie, he was more than interested in of the roof overhang beneath the guttering, landed on a fence right near, looking up into this guttering, made four attempts to get up there, eventually managed to perch on a sideways downpipe, stuck his head right into the guttering for ages.
Dawned on me that he was looking for chicks or maybe eggs to eat from another nest, even though it's wrong time of year, maybe the mild weather, don't know.
Can any birdwatchers on here confirm if I'm right?
Is this common practice with Magpies?

Ravens have gone from being a rare bird to a not quite rare bird in a few short years, it's amazing what nature can do if left to its own device without any interfering from mankind. They're true master's of flight, watching them ride the thermals over a cliff or quarry is a fabulous sight.
Steve
The trouble is they are very clever predators .
