  5. Robb I was the poster who suggested that the Johnny Earl track MIGHT be Tommy Good. I thought it sounded like him and the name " Johnny Earl" , who apparently had an audition at Motown, failed, and then was never heard of again, seemed unlikely to me. I then thought that the track may have been overlooked, mislaid etc. Possibly, somebody at Motown applied a ficticous name to it. Alternatively, I thought that it could have been an attempt to re-brand Tommy Good , but the plan was shelved. I now accept that these ideas were incorrect, and Johhny Earl remains an unknown artist who recorded this track. There is no suggestion that there are 2 Johnny Earls in relation to Motown.Another poster found a 1960 Rock and Roll 45 on Johnny Earl, and suggested it was him, which I very much doubt.

  9. On the recently issued "More Motown Guys" CD, a track by "Johnny Earl" titles"Stop and think about love" is featured. It's noted as an "Audition", but it sounds too polished for an "Audition" to me. I thought it might be Tommy Good ( maybe forgotten/mislaid ...possibly an attempt to try again at Motown , with only one flop 45 issued. ("Baby I miss you".) It sounds very similar to Tommy IMO. Compiler Paul Nixon has since contacted Tommy Good, who confirms that the track is NOT him. Does anybody know of any "Johnny Earl" around 1966 who might have "Auditioned" for Motown?

  11. I recently received a facebook message regarding Millgate Arts Centre in Delph, Saddleworth ( can't locate again...sadly). They are planning to stage "Once upon a time in Wigan" next February, but are asking for volunteers to audition for the parts in the show. If anybody sees this facebook please post here for more informatjon.

  13. It should be great Neil Will start my radio show off with JJ's version, and give a plug to this new find.
  14. The story gets better..from an unfinished Edwin vocal, to 2 vocals. Looking forward to it...and the Edwin original of " Please let me in" 🙂
  15. Hi Yes...It seems so
  16. Slightly confusing those memories regarding Edwin not getting the 'feel' for the track. It suggests he didn't complete the recording , walking out of the studio with his "Ego" on a truck bed LOL. I guess the memories are faded somewhat, as I assume we'll hear a full vocal by Edwin.
  17. Hello. Just unfortunate . Was there 45 mins before start. Avoided table near bar...bound to get crowded. Back room was freezing cold..door open. So we took seats near the DJ but behind speakers. But there was piped music in the back room, but our speaker was not working, and my request was, frankly, very rudely refused. But I could tell the tunes were top quality, but some deck issues to. I travelled from Manchester...with friends not really into Northern so future visits, as a 'team' doubtful. I'd like to try again.
  18. Sunday 23-3-25 inc. TMG rundown, Hearts Of Stone, Temptations, Bobby Taylor, Spinners and more https://podcast.canstream.co.uk/manchesterfm/index.php?id=54853
  19. Sadly, where we sat, we could hardly hear the music.....yards away from the DJ box, but behind the speakers. The room adjacent had music piped through, so that seemed ok...but full. Tim told us to report it to the Manager, and when I asked him if he could turn on the Speaker, he replied "NO". Left after a few hours....the music selection was great...but as I say, we could hardly hear the tracks played. Nice Thai meal though
  20. Interesting, those Log Sheets are stamped with Motown's name, and appear to be listing dates from 1968. Were Motown logging these Golden World recordings, some time after the buy out in late 1966.?
