A true legend will be missed.

So sad to hear this over the weekend. I never wanted to see him live because from what I'd heard, I thought he'd be a shadow of his former self, overcome by his personal demons. I used to feel exactly the same about Nina Simone. And now the years have passed, I wish I'd gone along to see Dr. Simone anyway, no matter what. I'm already starting to feel this way about GSH. A man who tried to tell us what was happening. Whilst, most of the time, we all persisted in looking the other way . Things seemed to be looking up again with 'I'm new here' last year. And now this. Just such a shame that he didn't get more of a chance to bring some peace into his own life. RIP Brother Gil x

i can remember buying winter in america for the bottle, but was totally blown away by back home and your daddy loves you, those two tracks have followed me through many a journey and stayed awesome music, peace go with you brother, thank you for letting me here those songs

It takes a brave man to hold a mirror up to someone in love with themselves and tell them the real truth about themselves ! Gil fearlessly did this to America throughout his entire career, and we need him now more than ever. Sad sad sad. Thanks Jocko for the posts.

What a relief to read some genuine comment. I just came over from a US news website,there were hardly any comments and half the comments that they did get were right wing drivel about Gil and his ungrateful evil ilk. A genius dies and they use it as an excuse to politicise. Gil would have known what to write in his own defence, I could only think of telling them exactly what I thought of them, so I just left the RIP I'd logged on for and left the site. Life's too short. RIP GSH.

Very sad news indeed . When in Leeds at The Irish Centre on Friday , I told Lady B that GSH had once played there , unbeknowing of his passing earlier that day . Thank you for your contribution Sir : RIP . Malc

Johnny, This is indeed a real shame and a bit of a kick in the teeth for you and all you team as I am well aware of how hard you all work to get this venue together. Your hard work and dedication must be saluted and again, hats off to you all. Knowing you Johnny boy, you will be seeking a new venue for the October do and i hope, that the new owners (i know who you are) will give us all a chance next March to enjoy this fab venue and brilliant weekend at least once more. If they don't,well, more fool them, and lets hope we know as soon as possible so as to allow the 'team' to seek a new venue. Prestatyn has special memories as its where I asked Dave to marry me! Congratulations, John, Mark and all the crew for your achievements and good luck! Love and enormous thanks to each and every one who made this weekender so very special, and to all the artists who graced its now hallowed stage! Thank You Sarah and Dave xx

IM CHOKED & GUTTED this man was is my lifetime hero..no offence to B.W.......but GIL was THE POET ...his book THE HAWK..was the first book i ever read from cover to cover thats when GIL became a bookmark in my life ... arrogant ?..maybe.. controversial. ?......more of a politician devient ...?..........ah well depends if youve read the lyrics. they say if youve got it flaunt it ...well he had got it in abundance and was just flaunting us with his MULTI TALENTED GENIUS...... and i for one am so glad to have enjoyed a part of his life even though there's now....... a hole in mine R.I.P.................................G.S.H.

Shocking news musical genius and poet RIP

Sad news I will be having one out of the bottle for this legend tonight RIP Gil Scott Heron.

I was listening to his latest album on the way down to London yesterday and thinking to myself 'can't wait for the next one', truly a brilliant album and we are so lucky he left us with this fantastic piece of work written straight from the heart and as honest as ever . Ste.

Agreed , bought this on day of release.............. i think its a brilliant piece of work , much like all of the great man`s output. He lived life on HIS terms ........ a unique & brilliant artist . RIP

There's very few people in this world who have made me feel the way he did. He was the most brilliant mind of a historical generation. I can't describe the way I feel right now.

I just found out a few minutes ago, totally gutted. RIP Sir. Ste.
