  1. this is great! thanks, everyone, especially chalky. some notes: you've got Chex and Saxy twice. should Gemni be Gemini? (el count executives label? but 70s...) it should be Genebro, not Genbro. is Not forgetting a label or a stray note that got in? are Star Maker and Starmaker both right? is Vip just a repetition of V.I.P.? La Val was based very far west, on the other end of the state, no? Big Mac (not Big Mack) was in saginaw, no? should Billesse be on there? there are a few scattered about that aren't capitalized...
  2. Ren-Cen should come off and be added to 70s list. and Renaissance should be added to that list as well.
  3. carl, haven't seen you in years, man! you let anyone come look at your stuff these days, or is it strictly ebay? i'm gonna be in town in a couple weeks (for the nathaniel mayer fundraiser on 11/30 and the ann arbor soul club anniversary 12/5). cheers, matt
  4. right. but maybe this is a different Jay-Walking? pretty strange credits for a harrisburg record (though it does fit right into the harrisburg jay-walking numbering system): Jay-Walking 018 Eddie Parker Can't You See (What You're Doing to Me) (Jack Ashford) Do the Choo Choo (E. Willis, J. Ashford, L. Chandler) Produced by Jack Ashford and Lorraine Chandler Arranged by Paul Riser
  5. more: H (70s) Jay-Walking? (didn't think it's detroit, but the eddie parker is detroit through and through) Satan Mo-City (70s) Perfecta Grandville Coemands (70s) Homogenized (70s) Del-La-Northern (presumably the same as Northern Del-La, but this is how it appears on the label of the Little Roger Hatcher) Corn (70s-80s?) Twirl? (is this detroit?) G Carol (70s) American Dream (70s) Shur-Hit Lifeline (70s) Spartan
  6. oh, one more! Astronaut
  7. couple more missing ones: Bango Davey-Paul
  8. inkster IS a suburb of detroit. a few of these other labels are from places like grand rapids, which is a couple hours' drive from detroit, and saginaw, which is even farther. hot line music journal may have been distributed by amy/mala/bell, but it certainly has to be considered a grand rapids label, like wood city and equal. re Aquarius: are there two (or three?) detroit labels with that name? or is the yellow candace love aquarius the same as the multicolored soul-inpressions, domestic five, and ultimate ovation aquarius and the red calvin golden aquarius?
  9. more: Club America Creative Profile (maybe just 70s) Heavy Hank (maybe just 70s) Hit King Soul Kingston International Martin Midnite Movement Music Now (maybe just 70s) Natural N.O.E. Pelikin Rainbow Raldo Ring RRC Selector Sound Setting Sun Soul Track Sound Tank Trevia (maybe just 70s) Tru-Soul
  10. re DRUMHEAD: seems silly to exclude it based on lathrup village address; lathrup village is a very near suburb of detroit, so this is completely different from a label being based in, say, saginaw, flint, or grand rapids. if we're going to be this strict, we'd have to lose mutt, too, since it was based in inkster, another suburb. what about the BURT label? strictly speaking nashville-based, but surely a detroit connection, right? part of magic city setup, owned by ernest burt...did it start in detroit and then relocate to nashville with mr. burt?

  12. re DRUM: seen it listed in the past as a detroit label, but it's surely new york, and billy hambric has no detroit connections...does he? Drumhead, on the other hand--now, there's another Detroit label.
  13. also, chalky, the flaming arrows that didn't get national distribution through atlantic are GM pressings. i am 100 percent certain these are detroit records. i'm sure carl p can back me up on this.
  14. well, i'm staring at crow 42 right now, and it says across the bottom: 10049 TERRY, DETROIT, MICH. at some point, crow/flaming arrow seems to have been based in georgia, but it was definitely a detroit enterprise for much of its run. mel: cu-wu: 4 singles by ace jones 1 by deep heat 1 by little man & the inquires (that's leonard "little man" kaigler) 1 by five ounces of soul detroit record-store owner and dj the famous coachman seems to have been involved. that's all i know.
  15. Amtonac Big H Cherie Chrysler Column Compos Crow Cu-Wu Detroit Street Service Double Soul Flaming Arrow Gloria Grand Junction
  16. Heart, Amore, Desire (that's all one label) J-V-B Von Millage?
  17. Jump Off was a North Carolina label, but I agree that there's definitely some Detroit connection. Aquarius Gemini Ermi Capito Six-Toe Big 8 still some reps on list: sa-mo, ston-roc
  18. again, isn't sonday a west coast label? and what is sly girl?
  19. surely sonday isn't a detroit label...is sly girl really a label? what's on that one? a few more MAH'S TUBA TCB DEMORISTIC RAMBLER PETCOL BIG MACK BON GOLD SOUL SAGE SA-MO TOPPER RAMBROCK BIG HIT BIG STAR DYNAMICS HI-Q BECCO SOUL (not the motown one) SPIN RILEY'S ASHFORD DE-TO HARVEY ANNA
  20. i can vouch for the truth of this story. i was in brad's shop while he was on tour with his band, and the first thing the guy who was running things for him said to me when i walked in was "you won't believe what came in the door the day brad left town"....
  21. just found mine for $2 in detroit a few weeks ago. had been halfheartedly looking for a while...doesn't seem to be around much....
  22. showmen, "the wrong girl" (minit), strong VG (on a scale without E grades), plays better. good dj copy. some ring wear and sticker on label. $100. soul excitement, "stay together" (pink dolphin), VG+. some slight audible crackle on intro and fade, but once the music kicks in, it sounds great. $700. paypal only. e-mail, please: finewine@wfmu.org thanks, matt
  23. anyone got one to sell me?
  24. glad you liked it, toad. regarding "our last goodbye," my uncle worked quite a bit with ollie in detroit and several years back gave me a tape reel with about ten songs on it, including this one. no markings on the tape box, but other things on it are the instrumental backing track for "almost," both sides of the volumes on karen, and a possibly unreleased female vocal thing...can't recall what else. some speculation that this might be jimmy delphs, but that's never been confirmed. that's all i know.
