Funny isn't it, it used to stop Wigan dead at the height of it's plays - first record to use a straight up 'scratch' noise in it that I can think of too. Cracker!!
  2. That'll be the lads Kim, thanks. I'll send you a mobile number.

Well by the buugery - how are you Robin old son??
  4. I'm sure I saw Shifty's scooter in Warrington last summer - as a matter of fact I'm positive....but what was he doing up here.
  5. In one. Is your initial post of 'How long can it last?' really a post about how long you yourself will be able to attend and feel relevant on the scene. As I posted elsewhere, Northern - be it mainly Modern - Soul is alive and well with the 20 to 30's up and down the country. Again, it's difficult to get them to go to a 'nighter (the age thing always crops up when I speak to people about it) to enjoy their soul music when they can go to a night/all dayer that plays house and soul and is filled with people their own age. I understand what you're saying and I too would like it to go on forever but Northern Soul is now a City, it's just a shame some people still have a village mentality.

The Strictly Rhythm 'Blue' Series had some awesome vocal stuff on it. Thought it may be okay to stick some old Bradford Modern Room playlists up on this thread. ....and some earlier palylists (haven't got the scans to these though. They do do a lot of dubbier/tougher work though, so I'd tread carefully.
  8. Looks like I've got my excuse to start again here.

    https://www.spiritofhouse.com/index.php Good choice.
  10. I know mate, I know.
  11. When entering a 'Help The Aged' shop you still spend fifteen minutes thumbing through 100's of Dooleys and Racey 7"s in the vain hope of dropping on the stuff you used to in the 80's.
  12. I didn't drop out that early Simon haha. All the lads I knock about with - Deano, Tony Hayzer, Richard Francis, Paul Hawkins etc - all well over 40, all ex week in, week out Northern Soul Boys, still turn out to what I suppose would be deemed 'uptempo' events all year - don't give me the 'we're too old for that type of stuff now' malarky - really!? I'm joshing to some respects as the soul scene, I know is a lot wider and can incorporate more styles and tempo's - but I honestly believe that an uptermpo night could be easily carried off.
  13. Hasn't Keith Brady picked one of these up at a bootsale in Warrington in the last few months (10p)!?
  14. I'm looking for a good excuse to re-kindle my lost youth on the Northern Scene - but am struggling with all this talk of early finishes and midtempo stuff - where's my best bet for a firing session that finishes at 8 then chaps?
  15. I know what people mean these days about an 8am finish but to me from 6am to 8 is the only way to cap a night in the true all nighter tradition. There's something about that period, something a little special, that kind of makes the night. I love the fact that you've stretched into the next day....that wandering into normal people's lives after, by the people walking to work at that time's standards, a pretty ab-normal night. There was nothing quite like wandering out into reality at 8 o'clock into Wigan, Morecambe, Sheffield, Hinckley, Leicester, London, Rotherham etc, wherever it may have been, when the sun was shining. (I'm getting a bit misty eyed aren't I? )
  16. It's Dave Beasant innit?
  17. When you know too many small dodgy area's of GB and wonder what they are like in the afternoon. When you know estimated thumbing times between cities. When you realise that you are very good at spotting accents. When you can tell the difference between a tenner and a twenty in pitch darkness with gloves on. When every time a cat food commercial comes on, you rattle on to anyone who'll listen about Rubin. When you have an unhealthy knowledge of Service Station names. When you hear a single clap, you instantly react. When you work out the danceability of every floor surface that isn't carpet.
  18. Classy!!
  19. I was offered a 'second chance offer' on the Timeless Legend by him, being the second highest bidder - it's so annoying, wanting a record so badly (it was a great price for these times) but not having the confidence to be able to purchase it. I've sold some stuff to this guy over the last couple of years I'm sure, if it's the same guy, you're right.

Errol is now almost blue blood isn't he? Isn't he a racehorse breeder with Liz Windsor connections these days? Deffo worth a couple of bob anyhow. It may have 'Started With A Kiss' but old Errol knew where he wanted to end up.

Any more news on this? https://www.ipsofactofilms.com/films/souled_out.html
  24. Any idea of current prices? Cheers
  25. Used to attend Wigan and Rotherham, Parr Hall etc - always out the game on barbs by the close of M's. It's a long shot I know. Andy was tall and Les short if I remember.
