Yes I was going to carve some up at £20 a pop from timmion and sell them on for a small profit but why the fuck shouldn't I? It was my find and for all the donkey work I was going to do it's not unreasonable to want a little on top
Amazing that you really don't see any wrong in that....no, you go on all your hard work, you deserve it....why should the artist and the production team get any recognition.....you really are the limit....
Almost as hard to believe as the fact you'd rather sell your mates c/u carvers than direct them to CD Baby...unreal..

Christ alive!! Learn something new everyday......had no idea you liked popcorn Ezzie
Why start this thread Cliff?? The only reason i can think of is it's an attempt (failed btw) to make yourself look clever. You may not like this track and obviously you're free to say so but why do you feel the need to try and ridicule and belittle Russ at the same time? Surely your ego is big enough already that it doesn't need any further inflating....
Hardly surprising that very little new blood enters the scene when all the treatment they get from people like yourself is contempt and lack of respect.
Oh and it's CD only and a new release so why the dig about 'hot CD wallet'? How else are you meant to play it apart from carving it?
For the record...I've heard you DJ several times and I've heard Russ DJ several times. Given a choice I'd listen and dance to an hour of Russ behind the decks every time. Of course thats probably because I always prefer to see somebody with obvious enthusiasm for the music playing stuff they love and have worked hard to find and also because I do like music I can dance to.
Hi Adam,
Firstly, I only know the track because Beeks claimed it as his cover up and then got all upset and had a hissy fit because a few found out what it was. I didn't know that anyone else was playing it, and how would I ?
Secondly, and let's talk about respect....what kind of guy finds (or claims to, if Russ beat him to it) a CD track, covers it up, and then offers to sell carvers from it. I couldn't care less whether it's rock'n' roll or soul....it's just plain wrong.
And finally, don't you think you're taking this all a bit too seriously....
Don't suppose you want that CD I owe you now then......

flips a treat
SPARTANS-FORGET HER NAME -
anyone background info on these guys?
Agree with you on the flip Mike..it's pretty special.
I thought they might be the re-formed 50's group, but none of the Era credits match the 50's line-up. The Soul Harmony only lists Jimmy & The Spartans on Satellite, but no group line up credits...likely it's a different group.

Me again,
I know JM only has this valued at £100, I think it's a lot harder than that. Any views ? ATB Steve
The going rate for a Spartans is around 300-350......it's definitely a tough record to find, ask John Anderson. I saw him pay 300+ for it a few years back at Essence, and I think he knows about rarity and value. The flip also makes it collectable by the group and deep soul guys.

Another mixed bag of across the board soul, and more bargains to be bagged. Most of the 45s listed I'm selling for a mate, and so not an awful lot of room for price haggling, especially on the rarer items, though offers may be considered....
Usual deal on condition grading - all graded as VG++ are in great condition, not the usual beaten up quality that VG++ usually gets you from eBay...
PM to reserve or request sound files, information etc.
Toni and The Showmen - Try My Love - Ten Star Ex 350

Life - Tell Me Why - Reprise Ex slight warp, plays perfectly 125
Great 70's soul picking up revival spins....so rare on a stock copy..
Diane Lewis - Without Your Love / Giving Up Your Love - Wand DJ VG+ 200
Fantastic Detroit soul double sider, and one of the rarer Wand 45s..
Johnny Robinson - Gone But Not Forgotten - OKeh WD Ex 300
One of the classiest 60's sides from the label...Mike Terry, Don Mancha, Freddie Gorman made it that way..great deep flip too..
Sons Of Moses - Soul Symphony - Soft VG++ 50
Classic instrumental on the original Texas label
Harold Burrage - Master Key - M-Pac VG++ 45
Great early Chicago....not often seen for sale...
Chuck Wright - Love I Won't Be A Fool Anymore - Ember WD VG++ 75
The far more soulful version IMO..
4th Kingdom - Gotta Get To You - Congress of Racial Equality Ex 100
Great crossover soul from J R Bailey and Ken Williams...hard on this label..
Ruby Winters - In The Middle Of A Heartache - Diamond DJ M- 40

Guess what, Tony's copy of this is a Jamaican issue which is a lower quality dub, Russ is in an ocean somewhere shipping water and we need a mintish copy for a dub as the master for this one never emerged. Can any of you help out please? You will be rewarded.
Ady, if it's a copy of "No Fun Being Alone" you need. I can lend you mine. Drop me a PM with mailing details......

If you're going to call me extremely naive at least learn how to fucking spell it properly
Don't know what dictionary you use, but maybe you should check. If you don't like naive, then maybe inexperienced, immature or green might suit your comment...........anyhow it's good to see that good, honest, intelligent debate still lives....
I didn't call you extremely naive....just your comment.......if you're gonna post questions, expect answers...some of which you might not like.......taking things little too personally could be another sign of immaturity...

There's no doubt that UK is, and always will be, the Northern Soul epicentre but I don't think anyone would argue that it has gone global over the past decade. So how do UK punters regard overseas scenes? On the same level - or with a condescending pat on the head
?
The reason I raise this was a thread a few months ago where somebody had got a totally inaccurate impression of the Australian scene, thinking we were barely past prehistoric, shuffling around in flip-flops to the Theme from Joe 90 whilst chucking shrimps on the barbie. Bit of an over-exaggeration but this view was based on limited first hand knowledge and got quickly clarified.
I'm biased of course but in my view the Aussie scene can now be defined as progressive and dare I say the truest (and biggest) Northern scene outside UK
. This is clearly due to the fact that the audience consists of 95% ex-pat Brits from "proper" stock.
However this got me thinking that I'm probably just as guilty as the bloke who lambasted Oz NS in ignorance. For instance, my own snapshot view of other overseas scene is:-
Italy: Sub 30 average age, hardly any 60s sounds, more of a fashion parade.
Germany: R&B predominant, everybody shitfaced, no dancefloor etiquette.
Spain: Proper NS and serious collectors (OK I have personal experience in Spain)
France: Well there's nowt down South where I'm currently based (except the odd cheap EP!) but weekenders up North
Scandinavia: Serious collectors but no gigs, its too far away
Japan: Will try anything for a lark but unsustainable
USA: Should be the top non-UK location but only a handful of serious punters
I'm sure I'm completely wrong and have no intention of insulting anyone but you know what they say about perceptions
.
So my question is: do UK punters take any non-UK scenes seriously? Or is it just an opportunity to get a tan and lashed up with the benefit of good backing music
?
Cheers
Pete
Full marks for the most condescending, back-slapping, jingoistic and almost entirely incorrectly stated thread on this site in a very long time.
