Me too. Decent crew coming up from London. You Manchester lads always know what you're doing! Me, I'm not planning on seeing any sunshine.

  8. Getting back on track I've been playing this out quite a lot - The Solicitiors on Excello. Hammond instrumental that Bridges the gap between mod, crossover, funk and northern. Useful, cool record, with a mental b side that changes speed. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Tci17phOWb8&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DTci17phOWb8
  9. I know I've gone off topic, but this is one of my favourite sleeves, reminded to me by the last one. Literal ain't the half of it! album title is ALL STRUNG OUT
  10. makes me hungry just looking at it. might have to go home and eat!
  11. love that Wynder K Frog LP. has a fantastic picture of a fry up on the front too

***UPDATE**** We're back for 2014! DOWNTOWN SOULVILLE is back in May after a year’s break. We had to return to the beautiful Old Nun’s Head pub, and really felt — although there are lots of fabulous Soul and R&B nights in London at the moment — that there really wasn’t anything around quite like DOWNTOWN SOULVILLE. If you haven’t been before, you’re in for a treat. The Old Nun’s Head is a genuinely beautiful 1930s boozer run by Dan and Lou, a young and very enthusiastic couple who love Northern Soul, real ale and good food. http://www.theoldnunshead.co.uk. DOWNTOWN SOULVILLE takes over the wood-panelled upstairs room (we have it all to ourselves) which has its own bar -- and we often spill out into the beer garden too. The atmosphere is super-friendly and — whilst chin-stroking inevitably has been seen every now and then! — the accent is on the party. Music policy is largely Northern Soul, but we’re more than happy for our DJs to push the boundaries of that to encompass R&B in one direction, and the funkier side of Northern in the other. You should expect to hear classics, but also plenty of records that you’ve never heard before/don’t hear enough. Our guest DJs for the May party are the splendiferous MARCO SANTUCCI and ADAM TOREL, who is back from Japan for a very brief spell, and we had to grab him. Both have records that will make you salivate. But both also know how to make a room take off. So be prepared. These superstars will be joined by your regular Herberts, JAKE LINGWOOD, JOEL MASLIN [100 Club, Va Va Voom] and OLLIE LAILEY [Crystal Palace Soul]. Expect rare as rare tunes — and a great deal of dancing. We have our own sound system and go out of our way to make these old records sound as good as they possibly can. Entry is free, because we think if you’ve made the effort to come we would much prefer you spent your money on beer. All the essential details, below. Cheers! See you at the do. JAKE DETAILS The Old Nun's Head 15 Nunhead Green Nunhead LONDON SE15 3QQ 8pm - 2am FACEBOOK GROUP: https://www.facebook.com/groups/101066946615803/. TRAVEL NOTES Nunhead is next to 'hipsterville' Peckham and is well within Zone 2. Don't do what one person did last year and confuse it with Maidenhead!! Nunhead train station is 8 mins on the train from Victoria; or you can go to Peckham Rye from London Bridge and either walk 10 mins or change for one stop to Nunhead. Alternatively you might like to try the newly-opened orange Overground line to Peckham Rye which makes travel from all sorts of parts a London a doddle. And for getting home, we highly recommend a cab from the Keen Group on 020 8693 1000. Booking with them seems to save at least £10 compared with a cab over the river in the opposite direction. Any other questions, do post or PM and we’ll be happy to help you out.
