There was a superb line a few months back:
Something about 'when we were 18 and the bottoms of our trousers were 40, now it has all flipped around'
link
I liked the tag 'now high on the waist line and low on the hairline'
Been looking into your eyes Johnny and now finding I am strangely attrated to you...the thought of your pert wet lips, opening slightly, inviting as I lean forward......DAMM, Got to stop looking at the eyes :o

THEM DAY'S ARE GONE WHEN YOU COULD GET A GOOD SEMI OR UNKNOWN SOUND AT A REASONABLE PRICE.
link
Too true Mick! The whole scenes gone mad as far as prices are concerned and the days of buying blind in bulk are long gone (much like the days of walking into Davids Bookshop after a local butchers off-loaded a huge box of UK demos etc etc - remember?) Now I'm 40 next week :o so hopfully the boys have been in touch for a surprise party mate - or knowing Taff more than likely they haven't

WHAT ABOUT THE BEDFORD CLUBS IN THE '70S-GREAT MEMORIES.
WHERE I CUT MY TEETH DJ-ING.
ALSO YATE-WHAT A GREAT PLACE THAT WAS.
ALSO 69 CLUB IN BURTON ON TRENT. ONE MEMORY FROM THERE BUT I'LL LEAVE THAT FOR ANOTHER TIME.
link
Please GOD the 69 Club isn't a clue Mick :o What about the Castaway Club or the RAF Cardington Do's where Taff's Ex wasn't backward in coming forward to slap a few girlies
I remember you spinning quite a few Detroit goodies that weren't well known at the time and have now gone on to be classics - much like you you old Jesus looking Mexican head you

Did you hang out with a guy with long fair-ish hair, and wearing a tracksuit??
I'm busy trying to remember. There was a guy with a Kevin Keegan perm, another with one of the first flick haircuts I can remember wearing a really loud jumper (a la big country style). They were all near the stage. And a good looking girl in long skirt that the camera focussed on lots. If I was the camera man, thats who i would have been filming too
link
The guy with the tracksuit and spinning with the doddgy hair is Grahams brother and another whose left the scene I belivie. Graham has a photo collection, and his brother if memory serves right, to die for with 100s of the Casino and all the other venues as well.
The girl I remember as I was trying to pull her for a friend. Sadly my stunning looks failed me :-( and she told me to go carry out a sexual act on myself :-O
We used to hang around with Graham and also the Scottish crew, Wullie et all, and all met up every weekend.
Where the hell did the time go? Where did all my friends go?

I'd be interested to know which one you are Neil. After receiving loads of emails about plinston to put on in town. Now I am living in South Wales instead of down the road, I will probably get to go once in a while
link
Obviously the good looking one - DOH! That's me and the crew at the front of the stage on the right, Grey Spencers Bowies, Addias black vest and BAD headband! If you look real close you can see me purchasing the Brooks Brothers in the background and thinking is £90 worth it or not. How times change, lol. They also cut me, Nina and Jon Downings shuffling to 'There Was A Time' just as we go into our 'Come Dancing' routine - GUTTER!!!! That really was a great night and anther club sadly missed. Oh, by the way I'd left my then wife in a hospital bed with a punctured lung to attend so don't ever say I don't love me Soul (we are now divorced surprisingly!)

Neil, I was watching your youthful frame, chewing gum and trying to dance, only the other day - the Leicester 2nd Anniversary video. Sean Chapman's good lady, Michelle, having only started on the scene since meeting Sean a couple of years ago, was amazed at the youthful bodies gracing the dancefloor instead of the now common array of middle-aged baldies propping up the bar!!
link
OOOOOH THAT HURTS!!! That's why they used to call me, amongst other things, The Colonel, in those days due to sweat band under arm! Ah, those were the days and I would like to add that I'd done my leg in and hence why I was dancing like Mischief does today!!!!! Sadly many of those on that film are no longer with us but it is nice to dig it out and see Adam with hair!!!!
-
When you next see Scouse tell him Jenny (of Jenny & Nina fame) says Hi as we were only talking about him the other day!
On the subject of St Ives went to a recent reunion and had to chuckle at our friend, who shall remain nameless, going on about how he went every week, never missed one and all those memories etc etc. He then stated that he remembered most the huge tree and massive roundabout at the entrance to the venue...how we laughed as we pulled up and there was this twig stuck in the middle of a roundish hump in the middle of the road! Through the laughter we heard him mumble that 'f**k me the drugs must have been better than I remember back in those days' - cue manic laughing from everyone.

Fantastic club. They put a night on there about two years ago.Dont think it went that well as the place has changed so much.I had forgotten how hard that dance floor was!
Karen and Peanuts are doing fine but are off the scene now, Micks good and wouldn't surprise me if he don't turn up at the St.Ives reunion next week :-))
link
If you see Mick tell him Neil from Letchworth says hello and where the hell have you been! Tell him I'd love to see him down at the Plinston where many if not all the old faces still gather. Peanuts & Karen are sadly missed, as is the Mallett!

Ah, here we go again, splits, arguments, bitching etc etc. Who says the scenes changed from the old days
JTrouble you naughty boy, starting this discussion, lol.
For what it's worth I have no problem with any style of Soul music being played on the scene as long as it fits in and isn't at odds with the stuff played and accepted etc. Hamilton Movement, Rokk, Trace Of Smoke and so on are all great records without question (and Andy Dyson I am sure Sam's spun the track you mentioned at the Plinston where we are a lot more open to new toons!) and all go down a storm with us, alongside other genres such as Latin Soul, R&B and so on.
Playing Funk records that don't fit in would be a disaster and I speak as a one who likes Funk, deep or otherwise. Trying to force or belittle people who feel strongly on this isn't a good idea whatever side of the fence they sit on.
Regarding Ree Flores I first heard this via Rod Dearlove way back in the glory days of Stafford so to me it's a Northern Soul record, I am not interested in what others may class it as, top DJ's or not. Whilst on the subject of the progressive Stafford era am i the only one who recalls that a) it started life as a Modern venue and
was hated by a HUGE swath of the scene at the time!
Quality records should be spun, regardless of labels imposed on them and eras. After all, and here I go again!, aren't we SOUL lovers and keepers of the faith, namely unearthing and keeping alive these unknown/forgotten gems?
Let's just get behind great records people - wake up and live.

Good choice J-O-T (surprisingly! lol) Tolbert but I'd have to include Trace Of Smoke 'Treasure Mind' or maybe Sunshine Band 'Fly Away' or perhaps Tony Akien & Future 2000 'Good Things', hang on what about Executive Force or......b****cks, it's bleeding endless and almost impossible, and I haven't even touched the 60's newies side yet!
Forgotten Clubs
in All About the SOUL
Sadly you'd need cinemascope to video tape my body now
Also check out the trading card of Sean Chapman I've posted elsewhere.
