Clarkie and his specs! Top man and someone who has pointed me in the direction of many a fine toon long before anyone else had even heard it or knew it existed. His reviews and lists were often a source of much running of feet down stairs to get it before it hit the doormat. As said top man. I remember his Hinckley Ric Tic set too, the man hasn't been given proper praise for his sets or taste (even though he did look like Clarke Kent!) in my view.

Certainly Ray Pollard wasn't part of it, nor was Bob Yarborough, Ray went off to sing with Hector Rivera and Joe Cuba's bands and very little is known about the New Wanderers as far as I can tell. Theres an earlier thread on this very subject that also drew a blank but did ask if there was an Hispanic connection to the N.W and that certainly seems feasible given the writer credits but I think we are in for another of those frustrating little known about them moments!

Feck I've run out of likes !!!
Here's a photo to show Jane, taken earlier
Right, I'm off out now for the rest of the weekend, so I'll leave this thread in peace
but it's still open for other people to comment, folk who maybe haven't been on Soul Source during the week. & not had chance to have their say, It's all good fun
You'd better bloody run Ali! Jane still salivating all over the keyboard after showing her that pic!!!! Thank god you two can't meet up at the Plinston again, we'd be dancing in a pool of....well i'll leave it there!
On a final point I'd like to add that my boy, who has always graced me with the witty retort of 'is that your R-Soul music again dad!' (now that IS an oldie) whenever I spin something has actually said that he likes the Pharrell record (and him but thats another story!) and do i have anything similar he can listen too - I almost snapped my boot of Velvet Hammer in shock and surprise

For what its worth, having given up reading all the comments half way through and the same old arguments raging AGAIN (yawn!), I like the song and the fact that the Brits actually acknowledged theres a scene in the first place and used young Northern dancers (nice old skool moves btw, keeping it real blood :-)) Down with the yoot me!) was a bonus. Here's something 50+ oldies like me have to understand, as a music scene we are no longer relevant in the great scheme of things in this brave new digital download world we live in. The old days, for me that was 1978 onwards, when we were truly an underground movement are gone. Jesus type in Northern Soul into Google and you get 56 million hits! Couple that with the media exposure, TV specials, 100s of CD's and the books that you can pick up in your local WHSmiths (and I even came across a copy of Manships Rare Soul Price Guide on the Indian Reservation bookshop in Minnesota!!!!) and you begin to realise WE AREN'T underground anymore - probably not been since the mid 70's. If the scene is to survive and move forward it needs new blood and nurturing to the traditions that we all love and understand but allowing them to move the scene forward in their way, as we all did when we high on the hair line and low on the waist line lol.
Arguments like this will rage until the day the world stops turning, when your passionate about something thats the very nature of the beast, but let's not stomp on new blood coming onto the scene. We are never going to stop the media from shinning a spotlight on us, it's how we project ourselves thats most important.
That said Alison my missus Jane is in your camp re the PHOWAAAARRRRRR of Pharrell
Sometimes it's not even worth trying to argue!

Download the video with something like Freemake Video Downloader
Download & install GOM Media Player and play the video with it.
Hit F7 and under 'video' tab adjust brightness, contrast etc. Under the 'Control' tab slow the video down by hitting the 'slow' button
Thanks Simon, my street creed wit the Joot may just about to be re-established

For what its worth, for me clapping as always made the scene special; as said before; when you have 500 people clapping in perfect unison to an off beat you didn't even realise was there it's just magic! I think too much shite is discussed these days on what is/isnt allowed; what should or shouldn't be played etc etc and the basic truth; namely it is all about the music and the vibe, has been lost. I have and will always clap, despite some of the raised eyebrows I get lol, old soulies never die, they just fade away albeit to a thunderous backbeat of claps

Fantastic memories and so many faces no longer with us sadly; Little Mark, Rob Kearney, Mad Mick, Baz, Phil The Turk - the list is endless. I've forgotten how skinny I was!!! The fashions were superb and interesting to note the North/South divide; The north lots of taches, wedges, ski jumpers etc and the South, a lot harder, cropped hair, brutus, fred perrys etc! I always rated Jon's RSG events from the first time we went to Hemel on a Thursday night to kick the weekend off at the dance studio there, where there was a wall of mirrors on one side where you could check out your moves before moving Ooop North for the weekend :-) As for the music it was always progressive and you could always hear great toons; mix that with a superb atmosphere and a bunch of total nutters and you have your reason why it was such a beloved venue.
I went to the reunion a few years back and that was great night too; thanks for the memories Jon and love to you and Sue.
BTW can someone clean up the 2nd vid as thats me spinning and kicking like a mad thing in the background and my kids don't believe me! I've got to try and retain some form of street creed!!! LOL

Whilst shouting at the debate going on on Jeremy Vine's Radio 2 show the other day in the car,he played a toon I've known for years and hit me with 'I never knew that! Of Course!!!' moment. It was Marvin's 'Abraham, Martin, John' and as he introduced it he said it wasn't a religious statement but about dead heroes; i.e: Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King and John F Kennedy. Having listened to the record as I said for years I couldn't believe I hadn't noticed that in all that time! Anyone else had similar where you know and love a record thinking its about one thing but upon listening again you realise its about something completely different?
