  1. I don't like personal attacks. I respect that everyone deserves an opinion but I feel that people have overstepped the mark. Maybe they should come up and slag us all to our faces next time we're out.

    ================================================================================

    =

    Totally agreee mate personal attacks on people are well out of order blimey Northern Soul Scene as always been

    classed as friendly mind you, you would,nt think it on some of the shinnaniggins whats gone on these past years :thumbsup:

    LOVE ,PEACE & HAPPINESS

    THERES ENOUGH HATE IN THIS WORLD WITHOUT FALLING OUT OVER A TV PROG

    WHICH WAS ONLY TRYING TO RECREATE THE PAST.. :unsure:

  2. Oh, catfight! Meeeeow! :thumbsup: It's getting ridiculous guys..much more ridiculous than this show could ever have been.

    ==========================================================================

    In the aftermath of the show after having a good laugh and more than a bit of cringing personally

    i think what most of us are worried about is the general public seein us Northern Soul lovers as

    vest wearing twirly skirt wearing soulies living in the past which we all know for the majority of us is,nt

    true .Yesterday was a TV Show trying to show the public what the 70,s was like at Wigan Casino Niters

    it involved asking the girls to dress up aka 70,s style and Paul O, Grady as a celeb presenter got in the

    swing of things as he saw fit 1973 tank top style he he with his bags and alniter bag trying to recreate

    the style of dress at the Casino .Regarding Russ Winstanley well theres no getting away from the fact

    he was the driving force along with Mr Marshall the owner and Mr Walker the Cas manager in getting the

    niter up n running in the first place and Russ well he had the say who DJ,D in the Casino and he made the right choices

    most of the time as the attendances throughout the 70,s proved in fact many of the 45,s spun at Wigan

    especally around 79 /81 are still considered classic rare dancers today Magnetics / Ray Agee ect ect ect

    so who can blame Russ for making a living these past 30 odd years on the back of one of the Worlds greatest

    Clubs its his job its one of the ways he makes a living to pay the bills like i make a living within the youth justice system

    good luck to him , a lot of us on here have moved on musicwise since the days of Wigan Cas we have discovered

    many many truely magnificent recordings with the help of soulies like Ady Crosdal, Rob Thomas Andy Dyson Tim Brown n M.Koppell Butch, Ian Levine n C. Curtis

    John Manship Soul Sam Richard Searling Rob Marriot Gary Spencer Guy Hennigan, Dave Flynn & the Capital Soul Club djs, Mick H Mark Bicknall Roger Banks my good friend rip Pete Lawson ect and many many more soulies who never get the credit they deserve

    for bringing new 60,s 70,s 80,s soul music to us.. Has for Sandy Holt well hes a great guy with a genuine love of Northern Soul Music just like me and everyone else whos posted on this topic he,s on these progs because of his love of

    the music and his dancing skills which aint bad for a guy his age Liam & Co young Soulies trying to recreate the

    dancing skills of yesteryear and Liam well hes got some great moves you cant deny that !!! All in All it was just a show

    about what went on in the past it really was nothing like that thats for sure i went to nearly all the niters at Wigan

    and believe me you cant fit into a tv prog what it was really like nothing can recreate the past at Wigan Casino

    you had to live in those times to know what it was all about the Music the Friendship the Gear ect ect

    Happy Days.. But most of us have moved on thank god and soulies like me and many more have a lot to be thankful

    to the Black youngsters of 60,S America for bringing us such a Wonderful Wonderful Music which without there

    would,nt have been a Northern Soul Scene never mind a Wigan Casino

    DONT KEEP THE FAITH..SPREAD IT !!!

  5. Come on folks...get a grip...twas a little light entertainment thats all...I actually found it quite funny...made me smile...but in a good way...Liam texted me earlier and knew he was gonna get crucified for it on here...but I say fair play to him :)

    ================================================================================

    ===

    Tell u what Liam came out of it quite well ..What a brilliant dancer he is !!!! Even i cant dance like that

    after 15 bottles o Bud ( can i Gasher )

    rolleyes.gif

  6. or that they want to know about the way a minority of the scene has evolved into the small upfront nights that a few hundred anoraks attend today?

    It's not life and death!

    ========================================================================

    Tell u what if it was,nt for your so called few hundred anoraks the scene would,nt be what it is today

    all the soul nites all over the country and behond is because after Wigan Cas shut its doors and thousands

    drifted away from Northern Soul your anoraks kept the scene going via Stafford.. Parr Hall. Saints Club

    Leigh Miners / Legion.. Earlstown Irish Club ect ect from these nites soulies started coming back to hear the music then started to open up there own nites resulting in a big revival of Northern from the 90,s onwards...

    THIS IS SOUL..REMEMBER BUT FOR BLACK AMERICAN SOUL MUSIC WE WOULD NEVER HAVE MET SO MANY

    NICE PEOPLE, BECAME VERY GOOD FRIENDS WITH SO MANY OR HAD OUR LIFES FULFILLED BY A TYPE OF

    MUSIC WHICH FOR MANY OF US IS NOT A HOBBY BUT A WAY OF LIFE... DONT KEEP THE FAITH...

    SPREAD IT !!!

    LOVE..PEACE & HAPPINESS

    XX ANORAK IAN CUNLIFFE

  7. You lot want to get a grip as the show is aimed at bored housewife's

    BlackAdder does Wiggin Cas watch this space........................

  8. THE GODFATHER OF NORTHERN SOUL..................... WHATS ALL THAT ABOUT ???????????????????

  9. I know James has a copy.. :yes: ..but who has the others?

    =========================================================================

    Steve Ashbourne underated DJ and all round nice guy from the Carlisle mega rare record triangle

    as a copy :D

  10. That price is just Bo***** no more than £125 hope he reads this

    ==============================================================

    Yes Ted £125 is about right for us UK collecters but you have to understand

    J. Manships Auction goes Worldwide via the net and theres a awful lot of collecters

    of rare 45,s outside the UK. 45,S like that are easy for us to pick up at the venues we

    go to ect but whats easy for one is hard for another, blimey that last sentance sounds like

    a rare 45 :yes:

    X Ian C

  11. [quote name='chorleybloke'

    By the way, how rare is this? Who plays it out?

    Cheers

    Pete

    ===========================================================================

    TIM BROWN :lol:

    Pretty rare on 100 Club Anniversary single in the scheme of things :)

    Wanna buy mine u can have it 75 % less than the King copy :shades:biggrin.gif

  13. Sure is Steve. I remember the week I got the chance of buying the Royal Esquires, same day as I had the chance of a Johnny Rodgers. Could only afford one, so said to my self that the Royal Esquires would never ever turn up, not in a million years, so even though it was near on double the price of the J.Rodgers, I went for it :lol:

  15. there was probably more in the basement, lots more as there were stacks of records under of water so I was told. Apparently many had no label at all, dissolved in t'water

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hi Chalky heard that myself.. If anyone as any old lists of Martin Koppells from around 73/74

    Lester Tipton is on one or two of them .I got my copy which i sold in 1980 off a guy from Merseyside

    at the Mecca in 74 £8 did,nt like it much and the first time i heard it played was around 1979 at Wiggin Cas.. The guy i got my copy off told me he had got it from a N/West market would,nt surprise

    me one bit if it was,nt off Russ Winstanleys stall in Wiggin another guy who had a great stall

    on Wiggin/ Bolton and Leigh markets in 70,s was John Fisher from Wigan thats where the first copy of Don & Ron--so so sorry came from, Howard Burrows bought it 50pence it took me years to get it off him

    Soul Sam got it off me several years later at the Barons Club in Burscough when i was DJ,in with Rob Marriott at one of is last ever dj spots great he was too !!!!

  17. Surprised to hear you say that Ian as there's someone in this forum who had more than a handful of Jimmy Wallace's a few years back. The Jackie Day's came out of the big find and there's been at least 10.

    =====================================================================

    Hi Pete a handful aint many considering how many rare soul collecters there are worldwide

    Same with such a big oldie has JD 10 thats nowt maybe if there had been 1000 then ya

    mind you JD still commanding big dosh going off what John Manship auction price from several months ago

    nearly £2000 :g:

    I,m still after PIC N BILL WHAT DOES IT TAKE Pete if u ever come across one mate..

  19. So it's not beyond comprehension that a Lester Tipton could slip out every 6 to 12 months then...

    ======================================================================

    The only person i know who had copies of Lester Tipton was Martin Koppell in the mid-70,s

    if i remember correctly he had 25 i think he said......

  20. Thats what they said about Danny Moore...Jackie Day naughty boy...Betty Lloyd...Jimmy Wallace

    ================================================================

    Unless you know something i dont Pete.. Jackie Day.. Jimmy Wallace have never turned up in any numbers

    other than the few JD which turned up several years ago Stateside regarding Jimmy Wallace in my opinion

    its always been pretty hard to locate even the songwriter a certain Mr Jerry Williams wants a copy

    after selling his to a Andy Rix Character :g:
