at probably my second or third time id been to wigan i was on the dancefloor when the dj played a tune that just ,well, blew my head off , i danced to it but didnt know the name of the song or the artist , with hindsight it was probably something 97 % of the people there already new.
spying a geeky looking fellow at the side of the floor i ran over to him and said "please , what was that last song called and who is it by ? " he looked at me with such a mixture of horror , pity and disgust on his face that i wanted the ground to swallow me up . he then pointedly turned away and refused to have anything more to do with me . i was absolutely crestfallen and came to the decision right there and then that i would never be a n.s. collector or collector of any music genre for that matter and therefore i would never be a dj. something i had considered as i come from a very n.soul and popular music family .
soooooo chaps , if a woman at a venue comes up to you in a dark corner and walls you up, grabbing you by the balls and says " you ruined my career now , SAY (*squeezes harder *) YOUR (* harder*) SORRY " , its me and the person in this story is you and you sir was once a soul snob.
It wawawawasn't me, HONEST.

True you didn't lose any.
But we did win at yours that season (v W.B.A.)
It was our 2nd home game, 1st one (v Aresenal) at Anfield.
We had to play away (1st 2 home games) cause of ban.
In the 1st game in the F.A. Cup at Old Trafford, Sir Bobby got his only booking of his career.
btw I went to all these games.
-U-K ME MAN, YOU'VE GOT A GOOD MEMORY.
I can remember nearly everything I did in the 70s.
F**ked if I can remember what I did last week.

ok my favourite subject the trouble with people on the scene today is many dont travel further than their own doorstep .and tend to have cloth ears nothing new there having travelled the length and breath of this country for thirty plus years supporting any d.j .s with that bit of balls to play new sounds like gilly and the hand full of others at the back end of the casino searling was great along with sam , pat brady and gary rushbrooke, in the 80,s it was firstly mr,s darge ,hennigan,mr crosdall in london jim wensoria
etc the last decade and a half has belonged to butch ,andy dyson mick.h .kitch etc trouble is these records dont get heard due to to many venues each week anyway i reckon thgese would have rocked any golden era venue
MELBA MOORE " MAGIC TOUCH " MAXINE BROWN " TORTURE " TIARRAS " SUPRISE " APPOINTMENTS " I SAW YOU THERE " THE TEMPTONES "YOU KNOW YOURE IN LOVE " NEW WANDERERS " RENDER MY SERVICE " JEAN CARTER " I WANNA KNOW " DIANE LEWIS " YOU AINT GOT A CHANCE " MIGHT LOVERS " EVERYONES SAYING " CALVIN GRAYSON " LOVES JUST BEGUN " GIGI & CHARMAINES "DONT WANNA LOSE YOUR LOVE " THE CARPETS JUST CANT WIN "MAC STATEN & NOMADS " THERE SHE GOES " THE PRIMERS " HOW DOES IT GRAB YOU " . plus a endless list of other top quality sounds that would put many of over played sounds to rest given the chance.
keeping soul real steve
Calvin Grayson was played back in the 70s, but was not as big as it as been in the last few years.
btw Loved it back than , still love it now.

i was 15 so attended the pendulum for the first time with my big brother Paul may have attended druffies in duckinfield and a couple of other places, also still going to the youth disco's at the vilage/hard rock and drinking in the throstles nest in old trafford, didnt attend the mecca or blues rooms or wigan until 1973 when i was 16.
I was going to the Mecca (Blackpool) in 72, but did not go to the Pendulum untill 73.
I can't remember when I 1st went to Blue Room in Sale, but only payed half on bus from Piccadilly.
Think about it payed half on all buses till I was about 21.

Cheers
Amo
I was selling tickets on euston station on the morning of the match.
Stoke beat United in the quarter final that year.
Stoke also beat us in the F.A. Cup that season as well. (replays galore)

Hamilton Bohannon - Foot Stompin Music
Graham Central Station - Feel The Need
Crown Heights Affair - Dreaming A Dream
All floor-fillers at Blackpool Mecca around 1974/75.
Graham Central Station may still possibly work at an 'across the board' venue, but maybe it's a bit too commercial for most folk. Great dancer tho
At the same time as Graham Central Station.....

Ohh FFS the worst record in the planet on on one of the worst bootlegs for a long time, there really is no justice.
I shouldn't have let Claire and Jenny stop me from assinating him on the Saturday on Prestatyn, but I was too busy laughing at his Bee Gee on Crack impersonation.
He did look like a right t**t.

In what way is it differnant
Dave?
I tell you a little story about the AMG copy, right here goes
Took Friday off work to go down to Soul Bowl, to get something new to play at the Legion.
I got a few bits and bats than John said that he had got copies of Midnight Brew just in.
Great so I took one, back in Accrington for The Legion not having played it yet.
1st record from me Melvin Carter, I was stood there in horror when the girly bit came in, but the dancers did not notice.
Thinking about Steve you would have been there.
It took me at least a year to get a Trip copy, it came from Lee's in Miami.

I know you can get it on AMG but I always thought this was a reissue just wondered if i am right and if so what label is the original and how much a copy would cost me
Thanks
The original issue is on Trip Universal it is quite a hard one so it is expensive.
The AMG copy is from 1975 and is a differnant take.

Hi Dave,
Issue 107 was a July issue with Brenda Russell on the cover and it said the next one would be September.
I have subscribed to the mag since around issue 20 and having sent another cheque off in June feel badly let down.Having purchased books/mags,music etc from most of the major players on our scene, I have very rarely had a problem, and if so this has been sorted out quickly.
Thanks
Steve
Hi Steve, I hope you get sorted soon.
Dave.

What were the cicumstances surrounding The Casino being Voted "Best Disco In The World" by Billboard. Who voted for it. Even after the commercialisation in 75/76, surely it was still not that well known world wide. So how did it get the award?
By the way, Happy Birthday Wigan. My own 36th anniversary is in 7 weeks ish.
Paul
Right Paul, what I was told at the time, (noway of knowing if it is true).
When Russ claimed to have over 100,000 members, billboard give it one vote per member.
If anybody knows anything else please post.
Dave.
