I don't know that particular record but Preview was a label set up to publish 'song poems', you wrote a song, send it to Preview with your cheque, and they would turn it into a record, there's a documentary called Off The Charts - The Song Poem Story, which features a good interview with Rodd Keith's son and he tells all about Preview records.
Thanks Pete I found the story of Preview facinating , loads of the stuff Rodd Keith put out was not very good , I asked Flynny about Terri , and he told me he went through loads of Preview stuff but didn't know Terri either , so I think she is an unknown. Also at that time Terri Thornton sang for that label and its a well known fact they used to quite often change their surnames when recording.... all facinating stuff if you have a few hours to Kill.

Best New Soul night 2011
For me the award has to go to "Grumpy Soul" it was so nice to see the organisation behind the event be truly Gobsmacked at the amount of people thatturned up and supported the event. Many faces we had never seen before , musically it was so inspiring.
Best New Nighter 2011
This one I don't feel equipt to give an award for as I don't do that many of them to feel I can make a valid choice
Best Venue Award 2011
The venue that bowled me over was the Floral Hall , it was an immacculate dancefloor , everything about the event was professional . I liked the fact that there was security on stage .
Most promising new Dj
I am going to give this to two people who I recentely saw spin as a Duo , quite often we focus on well known established spinners when we hand out praise , I am going to praise two guys that put such great sets together as individuals but can also create something really special as a team and that is Pat Bleasdale and Wigan Paul. Both have superb collections , they have stuff that is "out of the box" innovative , that often inspires , they are not showy about what they have got , in fact they don't really advertise/boast , both appear very humble and really do deserve much more praise than they get.
Best art work on flyers
This has to go to Maria O , the Boomerang flyers are the sort of artwork you would want to hang on your wall
Best 45 heard this year ( this can be old or new)
For me it has to be Terri Mathews " Round and Round" on Preview
The last time a record got me so obsessed about trying to get more information on an unknown artist was the Grey Imprint , for me this sound is out there , on its own , on another level. Add to that the fab story behind how Preview records would get jingles from unknown writers and then attach a backing track , sometimes often the same backing with unknown artists , it makes an amazing tale , and there are so many missing matrix numbers !
Best Live act seen this year
I could kick myself for missing the Impressions !
Bucket list - Live Act you would like to see ?
I would like to see Incognito again , and the Bahama Soul Club in Havana
Most amusing thread on the internet EVER ! ..... tell us about it !
Old KTF days , the Queen Vic pub thread , along with Your most embarrasing moments , Plus quite recenely being told about the guy in the fashionable clothes on the Floral Hall thread " thinking" I said he took drugs when I mentioned he may have been into Cyberdog Gear .... me meaning Cyberdog Clothes lol

I think everyone has a bit of eye candy in them meself
, its just skin deep you know , its whats inside that counts whether you are male or female .
Its all fancy plastic coating on the outstide , its what in the grooves that count and if i am being honest I would much rather be out with a bunch of anorachy blokes on a night out than out with a bunch of woman on the pull comparing lipsticks handbags and who has the best shoes .... oh dear I am going to be hated for that remark lol but its honest . But I will say that the "girly" types are the minority within the soul scene most WOMEN ..and i say that with Erma Franklyns voice on the soul scene are sort of well rounded and couldn't give a monkeys which gender is dancing along side them , they are out to dance ..end of
Funniest thing I have seen is when I used to go to a soul club that is very close to St Pauls , you looked down from above and all you saw was a sea of men dancing . I recall entering this club after working in the city one day ( I knew loads of the blokes there so it was no bother walking in alone ) I was meeting a girl mate down there later like, anyway there were some chaps at the top stairs looking down debating if they were coming in for a drink... they muttered it must be a gay bar lol
On a number of occasions I have been mistaken to be thought of as male ... never quite worked that one out ? the funniest thing was when a guy called Nige Carms ... I PML laughing
Aslo there are men that can have a very girls side to them .... the times I had been soaked with Dannys aftershave when we were just arriving at a soul do is unbelievable lol and he too used to say..... do you like me new shirt ? ..so its all on its head in Y2k ....does it really matter ? No just enjoy it for what it is , and if you get friends with a guy that has a femenine side to him you have cracked it !

I'm not bothered about that because I'm just happy to meet people who love the music as much as I do unessential if they are men or women. I'm just genuine wondering why there is so few women who really are active when it comes to dj, collecting records and so on.. I have hard to believe it's just a coincidence.
What you have to remember Sujka and you will meet a few of these types of women on your travels , when they are interested in the matrix numbers and they collect for themselves they are a force to be reckoned with
Also what I will mention is there are many men at the top of their game on the soul scene , some very respected collectors... who do they lean on to be their EARS .... their women ! lol
Many times I have been chatting with male collectors , one I recall in particular Frank Jackson , sad to say he's not with us anymore , anyway he used to play a group of us many a tune on a saturday , he eductaed both men and women in soul, he would play us a set of six sounds that were his choice, and they scanned a variety of genres, his commentery always mentioned the love of his life "Maureen" who quite often he would say knew a winner when he played it for her.
I think many men run sounds past their partners because they trust the judgement and honesty of those closest to them , and as they say behind every succesful man is a very succesful woman .
I have heard them say many times their first opinion is always the wife /partner /girlfriend ... or in Dereks case his dog , who happens to be the most soulful dog on the planet lol
Enjoy ... ladies records boxes are much more stylish and often double up as make up bags too

I am sure my tale of infactuation with the sound is recorded in the raresoul forum soultalk , I will try and search the soulful detroit archives today because a few of my chums on there helped in my crusade to find the lead singer ... Victor who served in the American Airforce . I was writing to a girlfriend who was in a relationship with one of the band , i was so close but never got to speaking to the boyfriend.
Yes this one really did have an impact on me , got obsessed by it , I really got the anorak bug with this one lol and yes my copy of the track came from a friend that got it from Shifty originally ..so yes it was a shifty find .
i wish I could find the piece I wrote would love to read it again.
Found the other side as the B side really amusing
Will the band see any of the sale proceeds on the release ?

Steve I used to have Pat & the Neurotics in those day , so regretted selling it , but the replacement served as a good choice , a bit slower and easier on the feet and pocket .
Must confess I kept saying maybe play it next time out ... but never thought people would receive it in the places that I have played in the past , glad to now feel that the environments have blossomed , and feel much more freedom of play nowadays ,and also thrilled to bits that people are lovin the Bamboos Step it up.

This sound really got under my skin around five years ago I think it was , did loads of research on it myself , such emotive lyrics it really did stand out as a killer cut to me back then . I wrote something in soul up north on it too and remember a massive debate trying to dicover who the people behind the song was . At one point I i thought the lead singer was Bobby Jones .
Would love to read the piece again ... lost my copy when I moved up north.
Imagine my delight holding one at Prestatyn ... Tim Browns box , god it was electrifying !
Dave if there one person that needs a copy when you run release its ME ME ME ! please

You know It must be annoying if you are about to Dj and someone has played the unofficial copy before you go on , maybe the way to protest about this is to play your original , apologise to the audience/dancers that it's a repeat play , however its being played in its original format which will add to their experiece as it will have a better sound quality .

I refuse to be drawn into anything heavy this week
as its holiday countdown for me , but I will ask the question have the politics been around forever?
My guess is it seems to be far more political nowadays because there is a sort of Soul houses of parliment on here
the debate is global and can be viewed by all and many memebrs can have their say.
I do wonder what the politics side of things meant 20 years ago?
