  3. Where's the Rose and Crown? I drank in the Chequers when i first left school.Next time you go there the Q in Chequers faces the wrong way.. Used to drink in the Palmerston and the Brewery Tap too. Nearest we got to music was Disco night in the Royal Standard

It's on Hoe Street past the cinema on the right, going towards Forest Road. Palmerston is still going but I think the Brewery Tap is gone (was that down by St James Street - if so it's a gym now) and the Standard definately is (shame many a fantastic gig in there).

Small world - we even have a proper Northern Night on in the Stow.

The Cock Tavern has been done up, but still has the same dodgy clientel lol.

  4. What Pubs that.. When i lived there you were lucky to have oops upside your head on the Juke box!

The Rose and Crown - they have live bands, comedy, the lot - loads of pubs done up into 'gastro' pubs (even the Checkers), it's turned into quite an interesting place. Even the Bell is now trendy (full of w*nkers from Stoke Newington in red trousers and sandals).

Even went into the Checkers and there was some bloke playing Northern(ish) on vinyl - reissues unfortunately but all definately changed in the last few years.

  5. Sorry, you are behind the times already. The Llandeilo Jazz Festival had a session on the Saturday afternoon done entirely from original 78s....OSO. Original shellac of course

Yep there's been quite a few 78's only nights (Jazz, Swing and Mento/Calypso) at my local boozer in Walthamstow as well - DJ's from the 'Shellac Collective'

  6. Yes for me - it's the charges this end that are the most painful as more US sellers are writing the true value of the record on the customs declaration and we cop the import duty, plus the infamous £8.00 UK postage handling fee.

I only look at lower priced stuff now and factor all these things in to any price - means I've bought one tune from the states in the last 3 months and that was $11.00.

  8. I dont flier very much and always ask beforehand and in fairness have never been refused.

I dont mind people putting out fliers at our place but again prefer it if they ask first.

Can only remember once in the last eight years where someone came in, dropped some fliers at the desk and buggered off - must of annoyed me as I still remember it!

  10. Not really noticed an increase in charity nights in the London area, so maybe it's a regional thing.

It's true we have had an increase in new events, and like alot of things, some are good run by people who 'get it' and some are complete tosh run by people who dont 'get it' and never will, attempting to trample on all those around them - but that's a different subject.

Maybe we could have some examples of these events, wanabee DJ's etc?

Find it hard to imagine people ripping off a charity in the way implied, but again let's hear about it properly.

Whenever I've run a charity night I've only ever once been asked by a DJ for expenses, always got our venue for free and only really had to pay the doorman.

The facebook advertising thing is easy (IMO) - it'd easier and nicer and often gets a better response than advertising on here these days. I used to go straight to the events section but rarely bother now (even for my own event lol).
