I've just seen a screening of a brilliant documentary featuring some great soul sisters that is nominated for next week's Oscars and gets a UK release in a couple of weeks.
It's called '20 Feet From Stardom' and is about backing singers who performed with major rock stars (plus Stevie Wonder and MJ), but of course there are a few familiar names in there for soul fans. It primarily centres around Darlene Love (Crystals). The cast also includes Merry Clayton, Tata Vega, Gloria Jones, Lisa Fischer, Patti Austin, Susaye Green (Supremes) and Mable John and I also discovered that Edna Wright was Darlene Love's sister!
Claudia Lennear (Ikettes) was at the screening and did a Q&A at the end.
Some great vocals and if you enjoyed Standing in the Shadows you're gonna love this.....seriously recommended.

Watched the DVD a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it! Also liked the bonus features with the interview with Merry, Darlene and Lisa, and the short interviews that didn't make it into the movie.

Watched film last night really enjoyed it. some excellent vocal talent that should or could have made it under different circumstances. recommend it to watch
