Motown's purchase of Golden World Records Inc. in September 1966 created considerable turbulence among the artists, musicians, producers and technicians associated with the sequested company. Speculation persists as to owner Ed Wingate's actual willingness to sell, having refused on several occasions, and the possible involvement of 'outside' organisations in applying pressure on him to bring about the move, as well as providing the capital to finance it.

I might be a tad biased here, perhaps? but in my book one James Howard McCelland a.k.a Jesse James has surely earned the right to be called a “Legend” this octogenarian performer has weathered many storms and shifts in musical trends and styles over the years but like the trouper that he is albeit in lower keys these days he still manages time and time again to come up with the goods!

Delighted to announce two new Jai Alai references, this time consisting in four favourite tracks never released on 7" before. Both Maze songs are simply outstanding so it´s certainly surprising Warner Bros didn´t pick up any of them for single releases ("Love Is" was quite hard to get on vinyl too, as the album only came out as promo). Same could be said about the dancefloor delight (an Isaac Hayes production, no less) "Everyday" and the CD only album track by Gerald Levert,

Taken at our recent Room at The Top Soul Club night on February 24th, they perfectly capture the atmosphere, the raw energy, and the sweaty intensity of the kind of nights I'm immensely proud to help promote alongside Charlotte Hindley, Connor White, and the entire Manchester soul collective. Together, we've been supporting and organising this event at Attama, the North West's 'underground' hub for late-night dancing, where we spin classic soul tunes and original soul 45s, preserving the timeless essence of the scene.
