Does anyone know if Emmanuel is still around and kicking up some dust?
I interviewed him on Soul 24-7 in 2001, and at that point he was still living in Detroit. I think he lived with his mum in an apartment in the projects, and I got the distinct impression that he'd seen better times.
He gave a great interview, which I had to agree not to circulate, spoke fondly of all of his old recording days, but also how he had been ripped off by people taking his records etc. I know he was suspicious of people from England, and hopefully we helped restore a little trust. He'd also heard about the northern scene via people like JJBarnes etc.
I was thinking that for someone who'se made so many GR8 recordings, he really is somewhat under appreciated.
