It's all to do with that certain feeling, that buzz, the emotional charge. Hard to define, but you either get it or you don't?

trademark northern is when you cant exactly get the gist of the song because of all the obscurity in the way!

Northern (Soul) is a Label invented in the early 70's, by Dave Godin who had a record shop in London, to describe an Allnighter scene that played great dance records to a fanatical crowd North of London.
