As promised folks, a list of USA 45's at last. And if people buy stuff off this list, I'll be able to buy some really cracking records and bring them to you at my usual bargain prices!
cheers all
Pete
PERCY STONE & THE EXPLOSIONS - CHAINED - RAM EX OFFS
Books at 750 and five have sold for between 400 and 700 in the last 3 years - offers please, minimum offer 300.
Vinyl is nice, label has a small bit of staining on the right hand side, just looks like a dark mark and you can still see the print through it
BONNIE HERMAN – HUSH DON’T CRY – COLUMBIA DEMO VG+ 125 SOLD
This only looks vg+ due to a large non-sounding mark but plays EX, if it hadn’t got that mark I’d have put at least 150 on this, trust me it plays like a dream
LIZ LANDS & THE TEMPTATIONS– MIDNIGHT JOHNNY – GORDY DEMO M 85
The rare West Coast purple label demo in pristine condition, you won’t find a better one – and what a sound
THE AMERICAN POETS – SHE BLEW A GOOD THING – BELGIAN LONDON! EX+ 50
Never seen one of these in my life or even knew it existed. Black label, looks like a US import but is actually from Belgium!
SUSAN MADDOX – MY – ZANZI VG+ 40
Early dancer – popcorn? Light crackle in parts. Books at 100.
NAT BROWN - IF THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT GO AHEAD - SELMA EX 50
Killer beat ballad - a magnificent piece of soul music. Weird dancer on the other side too.
THE DE VONS - SOMEONE TO TREAT ME - KING M- 35
Lovely midtempo dancer
LOU EDWARDS & TODAYS PEOPLE - TALKIN' BOUT POOR FOLKS - COLUMBIA DEMO
VG+ 30
Bit of label damage (water) and various marks and a few small scratches - plays fine but clicks now and again, will do til a better one turns up
ROBERT BANKS - A MIGHTY GOOD WAY - VERVE DEMO M- 60 SOLD
Almost forgotten Torch oldie - rare original
THE EXOTICS - LIKE YOU HURT ME - CORAL DEMO EX 40
Uptempo R&B tinged dancer, books at 75; someone drew around the centre hole so it's got a thin red band around it
KIM WESTON - I'M STILL LOVING YOU - TAMLA VG+ 40
A bit scruffy but plays great, perfect for djing, odd pop here and there but loud and powerful and always packs the floor
BARBARA McNAIR - YOU'RE GONNA LOVE MY BABY - MOTOWN EX 75
Different copy to the one I had last week, few non-spounding light marks but otherwise top-draw
ANITA BRYANT - MY MINDS PLAYING TRICKS ON ME AGAIN - COLUMBIA EX 40
Brilliant ender
BILL DOGGETT - TWENTY FIVE MILES - KING DEMO M 25
Excellent and in-demand version
THE SHIRELLES - WAIT TIL I GIVE THE SIGNAL - SCEPTER EX- 25
Nice dancer, one of their last for Scepter, underrated tune
GWEN OWENS - I LOST A GOOD THING - VELGO VG++ 100 SOLD
The rare green label design, powerhouse dancer, visually you can see it's not been kept in a sleeve but play wise, I think I heard maybe 3 tiny clicks on the whole record - half book price
LOU JOHNSON - UNSATISFIED - BIG TOP EX 20
A Classic amongst classics
THE ESSEX - MOONLIGHT MUSIC AND YOU - BANG DEMO EX+ 25
What a shit version this is, sometimes I do wonder why I buy some of these records LOL anyway on the plus side, it uses the original backing track, unfortunately the girl vocalist is having an off day (is it Anita Humes? Doubt it)
THE CONTENDERS - DO WHAT YOU GOTTA DO - EDGE M 30
Nice Wigan oldie
THE EQUIRES - DANCIN' A WHOLE IN THE WORLD - ROCKY RIDGE M- 25
Another record I detest, and also that other version, terrible
TONY DANIELS - HOW LONELY - SPORT M 45
Nice, underrated midtempo sound - good vocalist
BETTY LA VETTE - I'M HOLDING ON - BIG WHEEL M- 35
Cracking oldie
JACKIE WILSON - I GET THE SWEETEST FEELING - BRUNSWICK DEMO M- 30
This has Barbara Acklin - Love makes A Woman on the B side, I'd have thought this yellow demo would have been rare but it doesn't book highly, I'm surprised. Has writing on the label (intro time and date). Nice, curiousity piece.
THE FALCONS - HAS IT HAPPENED TO YOU YET - LU PINE DEMO EX- 100
Good solid Detroit rarity, writing on label (couple of names in biro) plays great
TURLEY RICHARDS - JUST CAN'T TAKE IT NO LONGER - COLUMBIA DEMO M 40
His other record - another good dancer
THE PERFECTIONS - SO LONELY - BIG B G+ 75
This looks like it got run over by a truck, it has ring wear and another record must have got stuck to it as it has a bit of a stax label stuck to it - but not only is it in the price guide at 600, it also plays fine, obviously it's got some background noise but I've heard worse. 600 quid record for 75 quid, go on, you know you want to
BARBARA JEAN ENGLISH - TASTES SOUR DON'T IT - A. SCHROEDER MUSIC CORP ACETATE M- 250 SOLD
This is a 10" acetate which I bought from Chris (son of Jimmy) Radcliffe a couple of years back, I believed it was the only one in existence and sold it for 400 quid, few weeks later turns out there was another one. Anyway this is the same copy that I originally had, still in gorgeous condition, and it's a bloomin' brilliant uptempo Northern dancer of the highest quality, if you haven't heard it and want to hear it I'll send you an mp3
