My mate (who's a non-soulie) has just bought the DVD of Peter Kay's, Driven To Distraction. He said "There's a song on there that sounds like it should be Northern Soul, right at the start".

So I borrowed the DVD and watched it last night, he was right. In the opening sequence you can hear the familiar voice singing "On her way to work one morning.........". I can assure you he hasn't heard me play it!

I was wondering if Peter Kay was bit of a Soul fan as in Phoenix Nights first series you can hear Soulful Shack playing as background music of one scene. Also on the DVD he does a deleted scene where Brian Potter mentions dancing at Clubs in the North West, in the commentary he says about they used to be Northern Soul Clubs. Anybody know if he's into soul?

he is a soul fan yes. i know someone who went to his wedding last year and lots of northern/motown oldies were played. he in fact dj'ed for part of the night.

he has admitted that he really wanted to mention brian potters northern soul past more often in the series. i do know that he bought several 'props' from beating rhythm in manchester for the show. If you are an anorak like me you will see that brian potter has a tamla motown mug!

you would love the soul nights in and around manchester as you meet the real article all the time. i am always having a little laugh to myself whilst talking to the bolton/bury/wigan lot. some real characters!

if you go into the sheffield thread and go back a few days i have posted up the new record from sheffields richard hawley. in that video you will see toby foster who plays the drums in the house band in phoenix nights. you will also see a really brief clip of some dancers at wigan casino.
