We've been tossing around the idea of perhaps planning a soul weekender here in Copenhagen for this coming summer, but I wanted to ask on here and gauge how well some of the other weekenders going on in Europe go over. How is attendance? Do most attending seem to travel for said events? Can you feel a difference between when you have a weekeder and a normal soul do in the audience and their reception to the music? I understand that booking quality DJs is the most key thing in order to have good numbers attending, but I'd love some discussion about what else makes a weekender work.

Have a go, and see what happens. That's my view (but don't spend a fortune) .

Why not just book your own local dj's, by that I mean Scandinavian, you don't need to have a UK opinion of what will work for your event, different countries have eclectic tastes, what works in the UK may not kick in Norway, Sweden or Denmark, I have been and played in Europe, I feel Germany is close to England, but even they have their own take, and that is to be commended, don't try and copy, just do your own thing, the UK has always been quite insular.

We would most likely book Scandinavian DJs for the event, maybe a couple guests from elsewhere. What I'm more interested in finding out from others who've hosted or attended weekenders around mainland Europe is how & why they've been successful (or not), and if people are willing to travel for these things in addition to the local supporters of this music. There's no question it'll be "our own thing", just curious if anyone else cares to listen?

Well I think he was asking for feedback from events which are "outside the UK"? and not the opinion of folk from the UK...which is why I edited my response, however I might be wrong and misunderstood the question. Not that i'm picking on you Brett you're points are totally valid. furthermore, since you did post your response as you have, I feel confident enough to say what I initially intended...

Make a judgement based on demand, thats the main thing, or do something with an element of risk, but which is also a specific twist/take' on what you feel represents your idea of soul. if it doesn't work, then at least you've tried. The event, however big or small, has to represent you and your values thats the main thing, and with that in mind, people will hopefully appreciate it, because they'll see themselves as being part of something and feel part of something that they can invest their time into...if that makes sense.

Pick the right DJ's for you and the right policy, not just a blue=print belonging to other events, that what I'm trying to say - every good event is a little different. Hamburg for instance has those awesome boat trips and the chill-day session...
