I don’t think this 45 is on sale anywhere in the world at the moment, so I will try and restrain myself from writing OTT crap about one of Northern Soul’s most-desirable prizes.
No, I’m sorry I won’t be able to resist it, the pull towards overblown superlatives is too strong. After all this is SHRINE and both sides are sending me into an impassioned eulogy of how this label without exception has heightened my senses every time I’ve listened, touched, sniffed and hugged any of it’s releases.
Then again I fully understand if your encounters with these Holy Grails are few and far between you may not fully appreciate a fully grown man going into fits of delight whilst holding this record.
If you want to feel like I do now - thrilled, humbled and privileged to be in the presence of such beauty, try and win this NS masterpiece, as it’s gonna be perhaps another lifetime before I see it again.

Love's What You Want
There is a good chance no other DJ or friend will have this excruciatingly RARE Detroit to hand when you spin it!
In fact this is one of the most-elusive girl tunes ever to emerge from the Motor City on an eye-catching obscure label that us soul-addicts just adore encountering!
An atmospheric Mike Valvano creation delivering a discreet blend of hammond and vibes supports Marisa’s sharp-vocal, with typical Detroit squealing girl-group back up all woven into a strong dance production, that also enjoys a most-unusual instrumental break.
Rarely , if ever seen for sale and begging to become an head-turning spin for an inspired DJ set.

Some records rise to a huge reputation, then as the decadess pass, they become a seldom-seen, seldom-talked about and fall once again into sleeping-obscurity.
I must admit, I’ve not had chance to drop the needle on this might-rolling-bulldozer of Northern Soul for quite some time, so wasn’t quite sure what to expect. So how pleasantly surprised I was when it’s sounded even better than I remembered.
From the first note the production exudes power, with the irresistible capacity to demand you to dance! James Abner’s kitchen-sink production reminds me of Freddie Hughes’s outings on Vee Jay & Exodus, which are enjoying well-received revival spins at the moment.
Could anyone who loves Northern Soul dancing leave the floor as the stylus thumps into this potent groove - as the atmosphere quickly builds into just one mighty slice of Northern!
DJ’s including myself should be eagerly adding this to their play list… AWESOME!

Kim Weston
After The Rain
UNISSUED and in my opinion Kim Weston finest “soul” record for Motown
This unique 10” studio acetate from 6th Of august 1965 is a world one-off having been acquired in Los Angeles in the late 80’s with over 50 other Motown studio acetates from Simon Soussan.
All were sold almost immediately, including Originals - Baby Have Mercy On Me - Four Tops - Jazz Workshop album etc etc.
At the time this was one of my favourites of that legendary batch. I can’t remember who bought it but I can remember feeling this is gonna take the Northern Soul scene by a storm; but it never did.
A clear case of in the wrong hands at the wrong time, but I’m thrilled today decades later to have it back in my possession because this recording sits in special part of Motown History- the part where some sessions oozed more SOUL than was commercially good.
Today it’s sounds even better than it did back then…an utterly glorious example of Detroit Soul and unissued for obvious reasons!
