He then turned his hand to writing and producing music, working with local band Freedom on the famed track 'High on you', as well as recording tracks under his own name and forming a publishing company with his friend Jesse Thompson. With this success he moved on to produce for Stax.

Today Vernon is a highly respected author and has had a best selling non-fictional book, “STANDING AT THE EDGE OF MADNESS."
