February 25, 201312 yr Nostalgic homage to sixties beach of course but this was from the early 80s. Regarding the Shag, it's roots - at least the version we know today - were in the 1940s, developed from steps borrowed from Lindy Hopping / Jitterbug among locals and servicemen in dance halls around North Carolina particularly Wilmington, though it became the 'official dance' of South Carolina. Historians argue it goes beyond that though to even earlier times, though the Shag means different things to different folks (and I mean regionally, not the usual UK gfawr etc) and also for added confusion gets called different name in some regions.
