Alice Thomas: A Girl’s Tears / I’m Coming Home (Odex) VG+ £75

Rare soul from Mississippi circa 1967, the singer’s only release. A Girl’s Tears is in ballad-with-a-beat style, while the flip is  sought-after eep soul. Not well known, and seems harder to find even than Vikki Styles on the label. Relatively clean overall, with a mark causing tics before the music starts on A Girl’s Tears, plus some other light surface wear and a very very slight warp, neither of which affect play.

The Montclairs: Hung Up On Your Love — mono / stereo (Paula) white demo EX- SOLD

‘70s stormer in company sleeve.

Jean Shy: Mr Music Maker / Speak! Talk About It (Playboy) M- £150

Rare ‘70s modern midtempo. Mistitled Mr Music Man, “Man” is crossed out and “Maker” is written in pen. Even though Mr Music Man / Maker only appears on the issue copy of this release, not the demo, this copy has a “Demonstration Not For Sale” stamp on the flip — weird.

Daughter’s Of Soul: Although I Need You I Can Do Without You / Too Much Competition (Rain Storm) strong SOLD

This little-known obscurity out of Memphis showcases a youthful bunch, who provide southern-style crossover with charm and feel, plus a Jacksons-esque raw funky flip. An admirable venture.

Antwans: You Got That Right / Ain’t No Love (Snawtna) VG+ £30

Haunting downtempo soul, a unique sound. Northern flip.
