I can die happy and turn to dust I've just seen Sergio Mendes at the Barbican Centre......my throat is sore, my eyes are misty and I think I can speak Portugese All was brilliant BUT when the band and the singers (Gracinha Leporace & Dawn Bishop) swung into action on 'I think I'm going out of my head'.........swoon, oxygen matron.... One of the best concerts in MANY a year and the percussionist - Meia Noite - AM-BLEEDIN'-A-MAZING.........just blew my mind.......thank Sergio, thank you Grachinha and Dawn, thank you band...thank you Life is wonderful. Sadly no - perhaps I should have shouted out but he wouldn't have heard me over the screams of adulation But Sergio said 'we will go right back to when Brasil 66 began....', grinned and off he went....The Frog, Last Batucada...plus all the old 'new' stuff...the guy who was rapping in place of Will.i.am did a better job and Dawn Hope did the vocals in place of Eryka and Jill and - blimey - that woman can sing...and looks especially good in a sparkly cat suit The sound was crisp, the band were tighter than a gnats arse and the whole show was studio sound.......Sergio walks on water Jo
