Because I didn't want to hijack the other thread, thought I'd start this one. It may have been discussed before, apologies if it has.

What exactly sets the price of any particular record, and why aren't all the guides consistent?

I don't know about any of the other price guides but I'm pretty sure that JMs guide is based on the database of sales from his own lists/website.

a record can be worth what people would pay for it. However record collectors new price guide lists Frank Wilson - do i love you re-issue from 1979 at £75
