Hello and welcome to the October 2017 list. A slightly shorter one this time, 45 only and with a few relisted items with lowered prices mixed in among the new stuff. Look closely for some great and rarely offered titles!
For paypal payments please make sure both currency fields are GBP, I don’t want to receive payments in other currencies. And for orders over £150 I need payment as gift alternatively add 4% to cover the fees.
PM to reserve!
Best Regards from a windy and rainy Stockholm,
Karl
Modern Soul & Two Step 45’s
Curtis Lee – Steppin’ – Spade / EX/VG / £700 (Killer modern soul dancer! Ultra rare 1979 release I think out of Ohio. Black artist, not the white one who had a string och R&R releases before the Mira/Coda NS interest one. The female backing vocals by Cokey Palmer really makes this a standout. Picture sleeve has wrinkling and a split on upper right corner.)
Horizon – Steppin’ out – Horizon / EX / £175 (Super obscure Texas funky blue eyed modern 45. Features some rather amazing synthesizers and breaks and some less amazing vocals.)
T.W. Bankston – You are the icing on my cake – Straight Up / EX/VG+ / £125 (Clean original of this fantastic two stepper. One of the best. Picture sleeve looks great and is in nice condition but has a crease in the middle.)
Al Foster Band – The night of the wolf – Roulette / EX / £125 (Club classic! Small writing on short version side. Please note that it distorts a little on the highest flute tunes in the break but I believe this is a pressing issue rather than a condition one.)
Tymes – Love’s illusion – Rca / EX / £80 (Killer Philly dancer, on 45 only found on the b-side of the very scarce issue copies. Nice clean copy complete with company sleeve.)
Ronn Matlock – You got the best of me – Cotillion / EX / £80 (Awesome modern soul dancer from the help of Michael Stokes. “Let me dance” side has date written on label.)
Spyder Turner – I’ve been waitin’ – Whitfield / EX / £70 (Lovely feelgood modern soul dancer. Flip is a nice midtempo track only on the rarer stock copies. Date written on label.)
K.L. Hamilton – I’m trying – Rip Prop / EX/VG+ / £70 (Simply awesome modern soul with a two step feel. Flip is decent too. Picture sleeve has a vague stain but otherwise in lovely condition.)
Ambition– I’m gonna give my love / Whisper a love chant – Mercury / EX / £60 (Superb modern soul dancer backed by an even better mellow groove/sweet soul ballad. Promo copy complete with company sleeve.)
Jimmy Shearer – 47 degrees – Plinque Plonque Musique / EX/VG+ / £20 (Obscure swedish boogie/modern soul dancer. Pic sleeve has a couple of creases but still looks good.)
David Ruffin – Rode by the place where we used to stay – Motown / VG+ / £12 (Evergreen classic! Here with “Just let me hold you for a night” as flipside.)
David Morris Jr. – Midnight lady I / II – Buddah / VG+ / £12 (Promo copy of this superb and deep Philly soul dancer. Part II is the 6:13 Tom Moulton extended mix.)
Bobby Wilson – Deeper and deeper – Buddah / VG / £8 (Classic! Rarer issue copy with different flip. Record has light marks, “Deeper and deeper” side plays well, flip with some minor issues. Comes in company sleeve.)
Sharon McMann – Got to find another guy – Karen / EX / £650 (Major Detroit rarity! And such a beauty. Vinyl is clean but label has neat writing on both sides which says “P-262” written with black felt pen. There’s a little label tear on the inner circle similar to what you see on the youtube link below. Reduced from £750 on last list.)
Albert Jones – Reflections / Up to the sun – Bumpshop / EX / £250 (Highly recommended double header, and a much rarer release than his earlier ones. The slower side is the main one for me, but the uptempo flip ain’t bad either. )
George Jackson – I don’t have the time to love you – Mercury / EX / £175 (Perhaps his most indemand 45, a super nice midtempo dancer. Classy stuff! BB hole through label.)
Edward Hamilton & the Arabians – I’m gonna love you / Just let me know – Mary Jane / EX / £125 (Original take on this super soulful Detroit dancer which still sounds awesome. Just a timeless sound written by Melvin Davis. Flip is a great overlooked lowrider type of slowie. Label has a couple of barely noticeable tears.)
Hank Jacobs – Elijah rockin’ with soul – Call Me / VG+ / £75 (Classic, pounding NS instrumental. Original with delta number 66821 in dead wax. Record looks a little dull but plays well.)
Percy Wiggins – That’s loving you – A-Bet / VG+ / £70 (Original! High quality and highly classic NS dancer. First release with grey/orange/yellow label design. Vinyl has a few light marks, plays well.)
Jo Ann Garrett – A whole new plan – Chess / G+ / £70 (Black/shield design first press of this classic NS midtempo dancer. Emotion and then some! Vinyl is absolutely covered with light marks and scuffs but surprisingly it plays pretty much clean.)
Edwin Starr – Running back and forth / Time – Gordy / EX / £50 (Such a classic double header. RBAF is the one to play if you wanna get a full dancefloor, it’s cheating. Bb hole through label, thick and nice vinyl copy.)
Caesars – (Lala) I love you / Get yourself together – Lanie / EX / £40 (Two great group harmony sides on this 1966 release, one dancer one slowie. Vinyl copy with the multi colored ring label design, miniscule tear on label. Please note that the pressing of this record is not perfect.)
Doris – You never come closer / Shirley Bassey – Light my fire – Blue Note / EX / £35 (Two classic rare grooves on this 1994 reissue. First time on 45 for both.)
Small Society – Just loving you / If you stand by me – Cadde / EX / £350 (Nice clean copy of this amazing lofi soul double header. One slow side, one dancer.)
Jupiter’s Release – Never never (Never met a girl like you) / Good stroke – Owl / VG+ / £275 (Very rare 1976 Dean Francis production, same label has Wee. Fantastic group harmony backed by a good funk tune. Vinyl has jukebox swirl marks but plays well.)
Smoke Sugar Company – Save a little love for a rainy day – Teri De / EX / £90 (1969 plain blue first press of this killer group harmony cut. Record has a very light warp not affecting play.)
Charades – Darling believe him / You better believe it – Harlem Hitparade / EX / £85 (Killer ballad of epic proportions that so far been pretty much overlooked. Flipside is a classic NS dancer which is superb after the silly intro. Pressed slightly off centre but does not affect play.)
Cause – Promises, promises / Hard times (In the City) – ASG / EX / £60 (Nice clean copy if this excellent sweet soul ballad. Funky conscious dancer on the flip.)
Black & Blue – Of all the hearts – Game / EX / £35 (Lovely crossover version of the song also done by the Deceptions, Peace Justice & Equality and by Danny Gold.)
Group – Spinning around / Say girl – Avalanche / EX / £35 (Lovely group harmony double sider with the b-side only being found on the scarcer issue copies.)
Fabulous Traits – Lonely man / Love is strange – Tele-Phonic / EX / £20 (Group slowie of close to magic qualities. Funky flip that apparently has been gotten soul scene spins.)
