Help needed to identify Northern Soul track by few words

Hi,

I need help identifying a track off an old mix-tape I've lost. It's a guy singing, rough voice. As I recall, the tune is in a heavy 70s vein. The line I remember is:

Now I know your words of love were just a lie
You were laughing all the time
