This included her performance of the powerful “Strange Fruit “ , an adapted poem written by Abel Meropol , American Communist in response to lynchings in the South. Its directed by Lee Daniels (known for Precious , The Butler.) Billie Holiday is played by Andrea Day , whose voice has been compared to Eartha Kitt , Adele, Amy Winehouse and naturally Billie Holiday. Andrea has won numerous awards for her songs but this is her first film lead. The film is produced and streamed by HULU (US , not available in the UK) but due for cinema release on March 12th 2021.
