I do like the odd quintet, so here you go, not 1, 2, 3 or 4, but 5 glorious slabs of sought-after soul, that could be yours if you’re “Johnny on the spot”
Happy to supply additional images and any sound files. PM questions or to reserve.
HOLD Patterson Twins – Gonna find a true love – Commercial 00042 WD M- £550
(This superb late 70s happy go lucky dancer compounds my attraction to Bottom & Company’s Motown version, just a brilliant tune no matter who did it.
HOLD Jan Jones – Independent woman – Day-Wood 101 Ex+ £500
(Just how I like em’, self-sufficient, mainly in charge, slick chick🤣 Outstanding slab of femme soul from the dawn of the 80s, with a vocal tone and range that I liken to Brenda Jones – Big mistake – Mercury. I do like a green label. Its mint minus to look at, however there is just 2 – 3 minimal light crackles (I stipulate NOT cue burn) on the run in, it doesn’t spoil a thing for me and strikes me as weak pressing quality.)
HOLD Jimmie Reed Jr. – I ain’t going nowhere – Mercury 72668 M- £300
(Absolutely captivating dancer that’s been dormant for too long. Finger popping stuff on a beautiful red stock copy.)
Mary Saxton – Take my heart / Sad eyes – Quality 1921 M- £700
(As the label states, it’s a quality double sider, and so nice on its Canadian imprint. Great dancer on top, uses the same backing as the “Tams - Be young be foolish”, and the downbeat almost verging of deep flip is the title of her Birchmount LP. Just a couple of light pops on the flip run in stops that side from being M-.)
HOLD Little Tommy – Baby can’t you see / I’m still hurt – Sound of Soul 104 M- £1300
(Thumping dancer, household tune, clean as a whistle surface, paper labels intact, many bubble under or lift. I’d like to call this near mint but I grade conservatively)
