Mixed bag of the unusual and the not-so-unusual. Great 45s but I just never play them.

  • Forget that overplayed Burning Up thing – everyone plays that and you want something different in your set, right?

  • Looks a bit grubby but plays great; bargain

  • Superb and obscure pounding Northern R&B 60s dancer with a touch of a funk kick
  • How this hasn’t had attention before is beyond me - great value for the money

  • Double-sided promo (not My Sweet Baby on the flip)

 

(10)   The Fabulous Emotions – “Number One Fool” (Tamboo) VG+/EX   £50   ***SOLD***

  • Rarer vinyl release – beautiful condition

 

(11)   Jesse Hill – “Mardi Gras” / “Free And Easy” (Pulsar WD) EX £60   ***SOLD***

 

(12)   The Jives – “Love” / “I Want You” (Tear Drop) EX  £75

  • Two great sides – superb sweet soul and a moody funky Northern flip which has had spins from Mr Fish Clancy

 

(13)   Johnny Mae Mathews – “My Momma Didn’t Lie” (Big Hit) VG+  £75

 

(14)   Kings Of Soul – “Girl What Have You Done” (Down To Earth WD) VG+  £100

  • Slight water staining on labels
  • OK, so not the rare issue with the big flip but this is brilliant enough

 

(15)   Larry Birdsong – “Every Night Of The Week” (Sur-Speed WD) VG+  £40

  • Not the early version on Champion, this is Larry’s later recording
  • A fantastic growling 60s mid-tempo dancer

 

(16)   Lattimore Brown – “Sweet Desiree” (Renegade DJ) VG+/EX sol  £50

 

(17)   Lee Jackson – “Give It To Me” (JAS) VG  £30    ***SOLD***

  • Obscure mid tempo 60s crossover soul – low condition grade but plays great

  • Uptempo R&B stormer
  • Plays great; also came out on Aries but these presses are better quality

  • Storming gritty R&B tinged Northern dancer

  • Tough 45 and deserves more attention
  • Was a regular play for John Stapleton at GoGo Children
  • Uptempo, bongo-driven Northern dancer with a funk edge

  • The Del-Larks man turning in a superb overlooked funky dancer

  • Vinyl press - marker pen across label on “Let Me Be Your Man” side
  • Scuff on “I Want” side but plays great

 

(24)   Walter Hamilton – “Nobody But Me” (Hi-Q) EX  £75

  • Should be a big 45 – gritty funk-edged R&B

 

(25)   The Walter Letts Gospel Singers – “Bad Confusion” (Letts Records) VG  £75

  • Some crackle but a decent enough copy for playing out loud
  • Superb and tough gospel dancer
