Curtis Davis - Somebody/Your Love And My Money (Bev-Mar) Vg+ £100 (one small mark that creates a tiny tick on ‘Somebody’ side the only thing stopping this being Ex)
I’ll probably regret this in six months because this is a relatively under the radar lowrider bomb just waiting to go off! That intro is just so fucking good. Flip it for a drum heavy funk edged slab of R&B that is simply perfect for today’s upfront dance floors. Big US lowrider dealer has one on Cogs at at over £200 but he’s probably a few months ahead with that price, rest assured though this will be a £300+ 45 once it gets heard more widely.
Boom! Killer moody R&B beat ballad and SO MUCH RARER than ‘Hard Row’ (better too IMHO) and a tenth of the price! Seems relatively unknown outside of Popcorn collectors, lovely copy first one I’ve seen in ten years of looking too.
Rapscallions - Sugar Woman (Memphis Sound) Ex (water damage on label as with most copies) £40
Fantastic garage soul/R&B dancer and a perfect example of a sound that’s growing in popularity across Europe and beyond at more upfront venues. A recent addition to FonSol’s incredible YouTube channel and one that instantly made me want a copy. Thanks to a US contact I managed to get three more copies (the first three flew out) and I only one left from this batch as the others went private sale! Looks like there’s a big future for this one. Clip I think is recorded at +4.
In demand funk edged version of Eddie Parker’s seminal northern monster. Maroon (first press), prices going up and up on this, nice copy close to Mint.
Escorts - S.O.S. (Heart In Distress)/I Love You But You Don’t Know Me (Soulo) Vg+ (XOL) £100
Double sided dynamite, fabulous garage soul dancer top side that sounds just right for now, flip it for a wonderful blue eyed Shades of Sorrow style ballad, that’s growing in demand with lowrider collectors. Tough 45 on Date, very rare on this, it’s first label. Great copy.
Skunks - I Recommend Her (World Pacific) Mint- (company sleeve) £30
Banging garage soul, not sure anyone’s on this one yet so a chance to get in at an entry level price before they all disappear! Beautiful copy with a lovely company sleeve.
Postage UK £1.80 standard first class or £3.50 recorded, £8 special delivery registered and insured, Europe £8.95 tracked and signed. USA £12.95 tracked.
