I was going through several old Blues & Soul magazines , and in Frank Elson's " Checking It Out " column in the edition for February 12 - 25 , 1974 , he wrote the following article , which I had forgotten about ......

Attention all pressing haters :

A group of Northern DJs have got together to form an anti - pressing society , and they want to find out just how much support they have amongst soul fans . The society has one simple aim - and that is to stop the sale of pressings . So those people who feel the same way should write to me , and I'll pass the letters on . Ideas as to how they can be stopped would also be appreciated .

Does anyone remember this " society " being formed ? , and if so , who were the the group of Northern DJs that were behind it ?

Hi Baz ....

It also made me smile ......

I seem to remember that there were - as there are now - a lot of proposals which had good intentions backing them up ( sounds like a group ) for the betterment of the scene in the seventies , and the idea of an " Anti Pressings Society " - however meritous it would have been - was one of them .

I can only think that they " Group of Northern DJs " supposedly behind the idea , were the ones who were having their top sounds fall foul of the booters ......
