The year is 1983 (maybe ‘84) my first visit to Top of the World Stafford and Guy Hennigan drops the topside of this covered up as The Passionettes and I am instantly in love. Purchased from the record bar less than fifteen minutes later for the princely sum of £5. Play testing this copy today brought back so many memories and reminded me of just what a superb and iconic 45 this is, sublime mid tempo soul at its very finest. The flip though is even better! A lowrider 45 that’s revered and sought after across the pond and whilst similar in style it drops the tempo to hauntingly beautiful. A fabulous double sider that still makes the hairs in the back of my neck stand up. Some hairlines and barely visible WOL (see photo) plays strong Vg+.
