A great bunch of tunes up for grabs, not a duffer in amongst them, some rare, one obscure….

Happy to send additional images or sound files. PM any questions or to reserve.

Bettye Swann – When the game is played on you – Atlantic 3211 M- £150

(Femme crossover, in-demand for a few years. Small label bubble at 8 o’clock on spindle hole caused by glue in pressing process)

Falcons – (I’m a fool) I must love you – Big Wheel 321 Ex £50

(Sublime mid-tempo Detroit, that will never ever fall from grace)

Candy & Kisses – Someone out there / Chains of love – Decca 32415 Ex+ £30

(Prominent Northern girl group with yet another classic double sider. Drill hole)

Robbie Lee – Stop me baby / Sad, sad world – Excel 102 M- £250

(The usual story, virtually unknown artist knocks 2 sides out the park. New Orleans release with upbeat Northern dancer flipped and a gentle soulful flip penned by Morrell Patterson who also gave us Charles Brimmers ‘Feeling in your heart’. Next on from Texas, NOLA 45s are my turn too. Only appeared on a handful of sales, hard one to come by)

Bobby Cash & Nite Flyers – Nobody knows – Kap-Tal 1001 M- £200

(1965 Tampa, Florida release that’s got a great vibe about it. Research tells us very little, but it has appeared on a Phil Shields (RIP) playlist in 2011. Remains rare and very much under the radar. Soul Source had a couple of members with it in wants. Tiny drill hole)

Olympics – The same old thing – Mirwood 5529 WD M- £85

(Fabulous Northern group dancer nestled neatly in the famed west coast Mirwood catalogue. Rare on white promo. Light ageing to flip label)

Bettye Swann – You gave me love – Money 135 M- £75

(All her Money 45s have a star quality. Sunning label design and in immaculate condition)

Detroit Soul – All of my life – Music Town 502 Ex+ £350

(I suspect Hartford, Connecticut is not the usual source for soul, but here’s an exception, and such a catchy free flowing dancer, the sort you can’t get out of your head. 2 releases, then never heard of again. 2 triangle symbols stamped on the top side. Frankford / Wayne stamped original)

Trade Martin – Work song – RCA 8926 M- £125

(Beautiful black stock copy)

IMG_E9180.thumb.JPG.1a86c1206cfbb2b6b865202049e4aef8.JPG

Michael & Raymond – Man without a woman – RCA 9244 WD M- £125

(Classic RCA Northern output. I never stopped to think there’d be label variations for this, but RCA used several pressing plants, so this one hails from the Hollywood plant)

Betty Everett – Getting mighty crowded – Vee Jay 628 Ex £10…..

(In my top 10 since the day I heard it over 40 years ago, one of tracks that I think epitomises the Northern sound to my ears. Deep horn intro, exquisite femme vocal, subtle girly backing, danceability. It may be cheap and cheerful but it is superb, but then Van McCoy is at the helm, what else is it gonna be)
