Not quite the bakers dozen tonight but another tidy list of high quality soul 45s up for grabs.
Happy to send images and sound files if needed. PM me to ask any questions or to reserve.
Sapphires – Gonna be a big thing – ABC 10753 Ex £200
(Gorgeous girl group track. Gold paint on label as is common with ABC and Tangerine label releases. Couple of feint handling lines, but plays M-, minor marks on label)
Bettye Swann – When the game is played on you – Atlantic 3211 M- £125
(Small label bubble at 8 o’clock on spindle hole caused by glue in pressing process)
(Deep horn intro, vibrant vocals and buzzing girly backing, wow! but then you could just stare transfixed at the black stock label with rainbow arrow spinning around)
Patrice Holloway – Love and desire – Capitol 5778 WD Ex £225
(For obvious reasons this has a Motown feel to it, but a classic none the less. Small sticker dot and label greying around spindle hole)
Universal Minds – A chance at love – Charles 1229 Ex £175
(2 cracking sides, ‘A chance’ is strong crossover, and ‘Betcha’ a grower on the low rider scene. Doing the rounds for 200-250)
Art Freeman – Slippin’ around – Fame 1008 M- £200
(Moody laid back soul dancer on a lovely Muscle Shoals label)
Patti Williams – I’m doing the best I can – Forward 135 Promo M- £175
(Upbeat rag time girly dancer, on a spanking arer demo)
Jobell & Orchestra de Salsa – Never gonna let you go – Jan 300 Ex+ £120
(Machine stamped original. Just one handling mark that stops it being M- visually but plays M-. Light ring wear on the flip ‘disco’ take label)
Roy Hamilton – The panic is on – MGM 13217 Promo Ex £160
(Outrageously simple but good beat ballad carried by Roy’s awesome voice. Some grub to the label, vinyl has some marks visually Ex but plays clean M-)
Anna Raye – Will you love my child – Quality Sound 02 M- £200
(Sizzling femme crossover on an obscure Chicago label)
Trade Martin – Work song – RCA 8926 M- £125
(Rarer collectable black stock copy. Seen white demos for more)
Michael & Raymond – Man without a woman – RCA 9244 WD M- £125
(Hollywood pressing plant)
Billy Keene – Wishing and hoping – Vault 943 Promo Ex+ £220
(Not a common format at all, 1st press promo in all its west coast splendour, such a catchy tune)
Holidays feat Billy Wicks – I’m the one who really loves you – Thunder 2628 Ex+ £150
(Mid-west obscurity, recorded at Golden Voice studios in South Pekin, Illinois thrives on great lead vocals)
Counts – Ask the lonely – Yes 103 M- £150
(A fine version of the Tops legendary take. Light edge lift, DNAP)
