Richie Barrett – Some other guy – Atlantic 2142 WD Vg+ £40
(Vinyl is marked but plays Ex)
Hank Soul Man Mullins – He upset your dreams – Audel 362 M- £65
(Lovely copy of this gritty up-tempo dancer)
Patrice Holloway – Love and desire – Capitol 5778 WD Ex £225
(For obvious reasons this has a Motown feel to it, but a classic none the less. Small sticker dot and label greying around spindle hole)
Willie Hightower – Because I love you – Capitol 5916 Ex+ £35
(Self-penned, but Robert Banks produced dancer, with sharp girly backing)
Universal Minds – A chance at love – Charles 1229 Ex £175
(2 cracking sides, ‘A chance’ is strong crossover, and ‘Betcha’ a grower on the low rider scene. Doing the rounds for 200-250)
Joanie Sommers – Never throw your dreams away – Columbia 43567 Ex+ £75
(Crisp femme vocals on this gorgeous silky smooth mid-tempo groover. Just one light scuff that DNAP stopping it being M-)
Bobby Hanna – Everybody needs love – Decca 455 M- £35
(Gorgeous dancer, penned by Jobette’s Holland and Whitfield. Not so common New Zealand solid centre Decca release)
Patti Williams – I’m doing the best I can – Forward 135 Promo M- £175
(Upbeat girly dancer, on a spanking rarer demo)
Oran Ruffin Jr. – Workin’ on it – ILA 902 M- £30
(Catchy R&B dancer on an obscure LA label)
Little Irvin – Who’s loving you – Ivory 711 M- £75
(Light R&B dancer out of Houston, Texas, the powers by like a steam train, very nice)
Four Tees – One more chance – Kent 4530 WD Ex £30
(Subtle group midtempo crossover, very nice)
Roy Hamilton – The panic is on – MGM 13217 Promo Ex £150
(Outrageously simple but good beat ballad carried by Roy’s awesome voice. Some grub to the label, vinyl has some marks visually Ex but plays clean M-)
Jimmy Helms – That’s the way it is – Oracle 1003 WD Ex £35
(Probably still under the radar, not surprised as Massachusetts is a backwater for great, traditional sounding Northern Soul. Couple of light marks on surface DNAP)
Herbie Goins & Night-Timers – Coming home to you – Parlophone 5533 Ex £60
(Gritty soul burner. KT stamped label with centre intact)
Anna Raye – Will you love my child – Quality Sound 02 M- £200
(Sizzling femme crossover on an obscure Chicago label)
Trade Martin – Work song – RCA 8926 M- £100
(Rarer collectable black stock copy. Seen white demos for more)
Herb Ward – Honest to goodness – RCA 9688 Promo Ex+ £325
(A classic full-on dancer, what a catalogue RCA gave us, full of Northern goodies. Small sticker mark on top side)
Luke Day – Love line – Renfro 40 M- £20
(Cultured bongo driven mid 70s west coast dancer from the catalogue of the revered Anthony C. Renfro)
Jimmy Castor – Just you girl / Magic saxophone – Smash 2085 M- £30
(Lovely catchy mid-tempo dancer on the top side that demonstrates a softer side to Jimmy, backed with the more frantic ‘Magic Sax’. Drill hole, star stamp on top label, and tiniest edge lift DNAP)
Hit Pack – Never say no to your baby – Soul 30510 WD Ex 2xol £40
(Nice demo to have on Motown’s ’Soul’ subsidiary. 2 xol and small 13 penned on)
Virgil Henry – You ain’t saying nothing new – Tamla 54212F M- £125
(Nice flip side “Can’t believe you’re really leaving”, etched ‘Lenny’ pressing, minor stain on spindle hole edge)
Holidays feat Billy Wicks – I’m the one who really loves you – Thunder 2628 Ex+ £125
(Mid-west obscurity, recorded at Golden Voice studios in South Pekin, Illinois thrives on great lead vocals)
Counts – Ask the lonely – Yes 103 M- £125
(A fine version of the Tops legendary take. Light edge lift, DNAP)
