Jackie Wilson – Because of you – Brunswick 55495 Ex+ £175
(Probably my all-time favourite vocalist, who transcended the decades with so many great tracks. Presented on a white promo with a couple of handling lines on each side, plus very light wear to labels)
Glories – I worship you baby – Date 1615 Ex £175
(Fabulous girly dancer. Couple of light handling marks that do not affect play, promo sticker on top label, little bit of ring wear)
Magnificent 7 – Never will I make my baby cry – Dial 4074 Ex+ £75
(Off the scale male group soul with harmonies on a tidy stock copy. Drill hole)
Exits – You’ve got to have money / Under the street lamp – Gemini 1004 Ex+ £135
(LA Group on a Cleveland, Ohio label, and such strong credits with the Soundville Productions team of Hank Graham and Leonard ‘Jewell’ Smith, and the group members including Jimmy Conwell, Godey Colbert, Esko Wallace, and latterly forming the Trips. That’s a far better line up than ‘Pompey’ can put out currently! 2 fabulous sides on a very decent copy)
(1965 Tampa, Florida release that’s got a great vibe about it. Research tells us very little, but it did appear on a Phil Shields (RIP) playlist in 2011. Remains rare and very much under the radar. Tiny drill hole)
John Bowie – You’re gonna missa good thing – Merben 503 White Promo Ex+ £1000
(Oner of the rarer white promos, stamped original. Great flip side ‘At the end of the day’, once again, many won’t be aware of this subtle understated crossover track. Looks lovely, just a couple of innocuous marks on the vinyl, do not affect play in any way, plays Mint Minus)
Syl Johnson – I resign – Twinight 107 Ex+ £350
(Very much under the radar. A brilliant crossover tune, once a Ted Massey (RIP) play and still not in the boxes of many of those looking for it. Minor edge lift, that does not affect play. Decent flip ‘Send me some lovin’)
