Does anyone know of a good “Noddy’s guide” to using Paypal?

I’m an interest in how you should use Paypal when selling records to your best advantage i.e. giving as little to them as need be!

Are there any advantages / disadvantage to the kind of account you use?

What pitfalls to look out for, common scams etc?

Any suitable or better alternatives?

Rates are fixed at 3.4% + 20p unless your monthly turnover is over £1500 when you can apply for a merchant discount, which is on a sliding scale based on turnover. A 'Premium' account is all you need, free to open it and no limits like there are on a 'Personal' account.

Common scam is getting chargebacks, where people claim not to have received the record and paypal nick your money and give it back to the 'buyer'. Only way around this is to send everything signed for delivery but even then that will only work if you are sending to a 'Confirmed' address (when you get the email telling you about a received payment it will state under the address if it is confirmed or not).

Google have just started a payment system that might be worth looking at or Nochex is pretty good.

Adam.
