Polydor Demos An Anorak Question

An anorak question.

I've been burning some mp3's tonight and I was going through some Polydor demo's.

Does anyone know why Polydor had double sided demo's such as Steeplechase - Never Coming Back/Lady Bright in 1970. Then went to Single sided demo's such as Pep Brown - I'm The One Who Needs You in 1973 and back to double sided demo's such as Gaslight - Just Because Of You/It's Just Like Magic in 1975.

I know they were a big company (so possibly no one will know the answer), with multiple music styles, which to me is strange as big companies always like consistency.
