Hi everybody

I thought it time to mention one of the great Detroit session musician guitarists that many of us have heard of, but maybe not too familiar with - Dennis Coffey! On his website he has photographs of his guitars and some label scans of some of the material he has played on. Look here to see a list of records he has been involved with in the past:

If you scroll down to 'records as a session guitarist', it could be responsible for your chin hitting the floor! Motown, Ric Tic, Hot Wax, Invictus, Golden World, Atlantic etc, one hell of a pedigree.

Here are some of the label scans:

He still performs, writes and produces in the city. Please check his web site out, it is an eye opener.

Excellent stuff, Carl...many of the tunes listed are real classics and among my favourites...I have 4 or 5 of his L.P.s and though I haven't played them in a while, they've always been good to listen to.

I didn't know he'd done all that, as it were - though I suppose it's unmistakably him on YOU GOTTA PAY THE PRICE...

I've taken the liberty of posting the links over at Chatty Mouth (and credited you)

Thanks for posting cool.gifcool.gif

Thanks ZT - I also forgot to mention the book 'Guitars, Bars & Motown Superstars' that Dennis wrote in 2002. It showcases his life and work in the Detroit music business. It really is a superb read, with some nice photos and trivia. The photos of the 'You got to pay the price' session are priceless. I have the hard back version published by Bee Cool Publishing (BCP) Limited. I managed to meet Dennis for the first time in London's Denmark Street when he came over for the book launch. The book is available here:

Thanks, Carl - I'll look into buying the book (though I don't have much interest in reading) when funds are a little bouncier

BTW - I also posted it over at Trojan...
