Hi,

A friend of mine played me this last night and she is after the original if possible? I haven't heard this version before, can anybody shed any light, was it out on 45 or just an album track? I haven't looked into this at all, i'm just being lazy i admit! Also, if anybody has it for sale let me know and i'll pass on your details.

The best one to get is Les McCann & Eddie Harris on Atlantic

Also try the Roberta Flack version from her debut Atlantic LP First Take.

Anyone know why & what words are beeped out on this version ??

The word "god dam nation"

I always believed that it was the only way that Atlantic could get the track some air play was by bleeping out the words!

So out there are copys that don't have the bleep in that they could not get played on radio and more likly demo only! but i wish you well trying to find one i've never seen one and it's been a long time want of mine!

Is that all it was then Steve, i wondered if they had put some extra words in or something as it's a live recording if i remember correctly ? In saying that it was probably just studio applied aplause as opposed to real. Different world back then i guess !!

Anyone else ever come across one without the bleeps ??

composed by Gene McDaniels. He also did a version which someone asked about on the RSF some weeks ago but can't find a 60's version, can only find a more recent version. Did he cut one in the 60's?

Les McCann the original cersion as far as I'm aware, thats who Gene wrote it for I think, so I read when looking into the track.
