Two must have CD's have just landed from Ace/Kent and I must say Mr Croasdell and Mr Rounce have done it again with two superb packages firstly 'The Very Best Of Garland Green' - CDKEND 303 24 stunning tracks from Chicago's outstanding Soul Singer covering his output on Revue, Uni, Cotillion, Spring, RCA and Ocean-Front, compiled by Ady Croasdell with superb sleeve notes by Ady and the legendary Robert Pruter author of Chicago Soul, 'Girl, I Love You', 'Ain't That Good Enough', 'It Rained Forty Days And Nights', 'Angel Baby', 'Jealous Kind Of Fella' and others are all here and sound glorious, as with all Kent releases the sound quality is second to none, sleeve notes to die for, well researched and in my opinion one of the best CD's to hit the streets in ages.
And if Mr Croasdell's efforts are not enough in comes Mr Rounce with a solid uppercut square on the jaw this time from 'The Vibrating Vibrations' - The Okeh And Epic Singles 1963 - 1968 - CDKEND304 which is the first official CD release of this seminal Los Angeles vocal groups best mid 60's Okeh and Epic singles including all the Northern biggies plus five previously unreleased recordings one of which is simply outstanding Track 11 - 'The Searching Is Over' alongside 25 winners including an unedited Stereo mix of 'Cause You're Mine' which puts this classic into another dimension, 'Gonna Get Along With Out You Now' 'Finding Out The Hard Way', 'End Up Crying', Ain't Love That Way' are all here and cement what a quality group these guys were, as with the Garland Green CD Tony has left no stone unturned with his detailed and informative sleeve notes which are first class, basically you can't really improve on perfection, wait to you hear the previously unissued 'Follow Your Heart' playing on my PC right now which is fan bloody tastic Mr Rounce!
Kent are still by far the best in the re issue business head and shoulders above the rest and these two packages confirm this, if you gonna do it do it right and Ady, Tony and Kent have certainly got it right this time.
