I have three or four 45s by blues/soul man Calvin Leavy, all on different labels. One of my favourites is "Thieves And Robbers" (backed with "If Life Last Luck Is Bound To Change") on the Downtown label (DTR 630). However, no year stated on the label, so curious to find out when this was released, in the late 70´s? Exact year or rough estimate please...

According to my copy there´s an LP too? Never seen it, anyone who can confirm.

Cheers,

Mel

I take it nobody has a clue?!

Admittedly, Calvin Leavy is a blues man,

but IMO "Thieves And Robbers"

is a very soulful tune,

reminds me somewhat

of O.V.Wright.

Cheers,

Melismo

I rate Calvin Leavy, I don't think his credentials as a southern soul singer vs bluesman are really in question. I love his Soul Beat sides (they are usually a blues flipped with southern/deep soul) & of course "Cummins Prison Farm" on Blue Fox. I think that Downtown 45 is actually from the early 80s, maybe 1981/82....... Actually I just checked my copy upstairs & it has 1980 on the label around the rim with the label address. It is the same as the one on ebay right now. Not his best IMO (I'm not big on late 70s/80s stuff) but it's ok. Does sound like late OV Wright a bit. Is Leavy still in jail??

I've never seen the LP that I can remember.
