I was privileged enough to see Phillipe Wynne (with the Spinners) live several times and he used the whole stage and addressed the audience just like that - but not in fat-padding and a dress! (Ironic really, as the Detroit Spinners were also fond of spoofing other Soul acts - notably the Supremes and Stevie Wonder!)
