Posted March 26, 200916 yr Anyone else just see it ? Two almost life size Roman statues that the bloke aquired around 20yrs ago from a nightclub in Stoke. Went for around £300, but if they came from the Torch someone could have bagged themselves a bargin even at that price I reckon ?

The original interior for The Torch when CB opened it in 1965 , had marble pillars and sculptures : possibly the statues may have been from The Torch . Interesting if any pre - all nighter attendees could confirm if The Torch had statues ....... I may be wrong , but I cannot recall any life sized statues when I went to the all nighters ......... but sometimes I was " distracted " Malc Burton THE TORCH REUNION OCTOBER 24th 2009 ONLY 5 TICKETS LEFT "Those that know the score ---know the score" burtonmalc@yahoo.co.uk or PaulDonnellyBP@aol.com ALL PROFITS will be a split donation between The Douglas Macmillan Hospice and The Stroke Association Edited March 27, 200916 yr by Malc Burton

March 27, 200916 yr Was only going on things I have read....I was far too young sadly. The piece on the Torch in the 'To Darn Soulful' book does (I think ) specifically mention there being statues. Watched the part of the program again & just to give you a bit more to go on....they looked about 5' high including the square plinths that they were stood on....these plinths had a Laural leaf circle & the two statues were what looked like Roman women in the typical pose. The guy actually said he got them 5yrs ago but had been associated with them for around 20yrs. I didn't hear this when I watched it yesterday...but he said they came from a night club in 'Hanley' Stoke on Trent...not 'Tunstall'....but didn't Chris Burton move on to a place in Hanley when the Torch closed ? Edit; I fished the book I mentioned out today to check...& it was sculptures not statues............... I'll get me coat. Edited March 29, 200916 yr by Bogue

Yes mate-CB moved on to Top rank in Hanley--amongst others. I mentioned tiffanies in Newcastle because their decor was pretty outlandish at the time--palm trees the lot There were other night clubs in Hanley ----The Place, Penny Farthing etc----oh got it I think there was a late night disco type thingy in the late '70;s in Hanley called the 'Roman Candle'---I wonder.................
