MAXINE BROWN (ABC-Paramount) (M-) *£50*
AM I FALLING IN LOVE1960s - USA
( Massive tune on Maxine - one of her BIGGEST Northern tunes...beautiful SOUL music...... )
AL HUDSON & THE SOUL PARTNERS (Atco) (M-) *£50* SOLD
"WHEN YOU'RE GONE" (1975 - USA)
( Just a marvellous piece of 70s Northern soul - just set at a nice pace to dance to and arranged by main man, Patrick Adams too - gorgeous copy - barely played..... )
"I THINK I WOULD CRY" / "WHY IS THERE NO TRACE OF YOU" (1970s - USA)SOLD
( Tuff, tuff to find 70s Northern outta Chicago - wonderful vocals / harmonies on a gently-midtempo groove - so, so soulful...nice Deep flip too...price is consistently rising on
this...reminds me a lot of the Natural Four's sound - especially their wonderful 'Heaven's Right Here On Earth'- lovely stuff......... )
( Killer, killer Disco / Funk.............no 12" was pressed - both sides absolutely monsterous (despite the daft titles!) and a synth line to die for...oh boy - wish I had a few more like this every list, pure 'ghetto' music outta California - with vocals by somebody calling himself 'Rockin Sidney'.........rings a bell? )
( Superlative, harmonica-led Funky R&B track from Little Sonny - easily as good as his 'Wade In The Water' biggie for me - unplayed WD copy too - superb...discussed on here recently...? )
( Rare, rare indie-disco private press joint from 1981 which is currently massive on several scenes - price will rise - this one is a KILLER - check the soundclip........Rare as rocking horse...clubby Disco Funk tune which, rumour has it, will soon be featuring on a forthcoming BBE rare disco compilation by one of the "Kings Of Disco". Incredibly hard to find........this copy has a few marks so I've chopped the price in HALF - ok disco kids? )
( 2 superb R&B instrumentals here - sax led and just right for the dancefloor...exemplary condition for a record that must be nearly 50 years old now... )
"GYPSY" / "THIS PLACE AIN'T GETTING NO BETTER" (1960s - USA)
( Cracking double-sider from this big voice - topside has had NS action but I reckon the flip is also a slow-burner - superb double-sider and one I've never had / seen before...... )
( I'm not normally much of a great fan of this mob's stuff but this one's better, much better...topside's a really funky, slow-drag workout with some excellent guitar picking and ruff brass while the b side is a bit more jazzy - recommended...definitely their best / rarest 45..... )
( Superb LP on Gary - produced by the geniuses that are/were the Mizell Brothers - completely at the top of their game
here....slight edge warp which causes slight 'stylus wobble' for a few revolutions - doesn't actually affect play though - sleeve has some slight seam wear too - minimal - blow dat horn, Gary.........blow dat horn.... )
"SOUL IN HIS MUSIC, MUSIC IN HIS SOUL" (1960s - USA)
( Rare LP on Roscoe - my first-ever copy...nice shape except for a top seam split and a but of yellowing here and there - with an
absolutely superb R&B cut here called 'My Best Friend' which I believe is LP-only? Shoot me down but that's what I believe - check the clip - very, very reminiscent of stuff like Gene McDaniels 'Tower Of Strength' - CHOON....vinyl is very clean... )
PORT AUTHORITY US NAVY BAND (The Navy) (Ex/Ex+) *£15*
"PORT AUTHORITY US NAVY BAND" (1970s - USA)
( I may well have got the title / name details slightly wrong here as the label copy is a bit confusing but, basically, it's well
funky stuff with 2 particularly strong cuts 'UFO' and 'Funkophobia'...slight sleeve wear but nothing bad at all...a bargain at £20...? Yep...few light crackles here and there - just a few....heavy tracks actually... )
LABELLE (Warner Bros) (Ex+/M-) *£15*
"MOON SHADOW" (1972 - USA)
( Lovely copy in condition except for some light ringwear on front of sleeve - the majestic 'Moon Shadow' still clocking in @ over 9 mins long...memories... )
( Lovely and loud pressing for these 2 killer Latin-Funk tracks from all-round Superstar, Ray Barretto - these tracks DO NOT exist
anywhere else on 12" except right here...small pressing that was quickly deleted on this short-lived Charly subsidiary...already nearly 10 years old...!! )
