  1. The Pied Piper Players - The Bari Sax (aka This Heart Is Lonely) - Kent Pied Piper 12 Mixed from the original Rose Batiste tape of ‘This Heart Is Lonely’, the fore-runner to her ‘I Miss My Baby’ on Revilot, this instrumental stomper will be recognised as what was later pressed as ‘Bari Track’. That’s Mike Terry on his famous baritone saxophone, along with his fellow Funk Brothers who also became the Pied Piper production company band. Pied Piper co-owner Shelley Haims wrote ‘We Go Together’, first recorded by the Moonglows in 1956. The Cavaliers’ 1966 soul update was initially issued on our first Pied Piper CD and also on the 100 Club anniversary single of 2013. This, though, is an alternate take with an early rap intro, which adds more charm. First time out on a 45. Your browser does not support the audio tag. View full store item

A hothouse label for some of the most essential soul music of the era, Millie Jackson, Joe Simon and The Fatback Band made their best-known songs and greatest chart hits for Spring. Tracks include Fatback's '(Are You Ready) Do The Bus Stop', Joe Simon's powerful, Gamble & Huff-penned 'Drowning In The Sea Of Love' and Millie Jackson's scorchingly confessional 'If Loving You Is Wrong (I Don't Wanna Be Right)'. Spring (with its subsidiaries Posse and Event) not only produced the big 1970s soul hits, they also gave us the minor hits and little gems that make soul music so interesting and rewarding.

  23. Thanks for the views/takes Anyone a fan? A fair few questions do spring to my mind, which given the promotion ('Northern Soul Reborn') of the album and/or the process think deserve to be asked. One which I would say was a major one, is why don't they use real world artists for the vocals ? Has that been mentioned in any of the promotion that we have been seeing? You out there @Dayo ?
